My Heritage Certificate says my Dino was Giallo Senape 20-Y-464 when it left the factory on 27/10/71. What little bits of it I've seen in the areas that weren't resprayed look like Fly Yellow or a bit lighter to me.

    Jim,

"Senape" means "mustard" in Italian. I have a picure of a GT in the giallo senape on my hard drive at work (it does look like mustard). Can post it on monday.

    Quote from this fellow's website:

My Ferrari was different from every other Dino that we have seen, in that it didn't have any Dino badges on the front or rear panels, which have dents in the shape of the badges. Mine had an upright yellow Ferrari badge shewn above, in an upright dent. On the rear, instead of a prancing horse, was the Ferrari name badge shewn above.

To have changed them would have meant an extremely expensive front and rear panel. So there had to be a reason. My son, Gawaine, enquired through the vehicle museums, and found that it had been the show car for Ferrari at the Geneva Motor Show.

I have recently sold the original documents and tool-kit from this car on eBay and they went for nearly as much as I got for the car!!

    ------------

His story about how the car had Ferrari badging and that proves it was the 1972 Geneva show car doesn't agree with everything I have read about Dinos--they never had F badging from the factory, or at least not until the very end of production.

I also note that he kept the books and tools for his Dino and his E-type for many years after selling them, something that makes me angry. Why did he do that? They should have gone with the cars!

Thanks for the info--it agrees with the previous owner telling me it had been a Mustard Yellow car originally. I assumed he meant Fly Yellow--I guess not.

Pietro - when anyone asks what color the car is, I explain that it is the same color as your refrigerator and shag carpet in 1970, along with the kitchen cabinets.

Yes, diaper green/yellow is a good description.

Yes, Graham, 8,000 miles from new. Interesting story. In 1981 a patient of mine asked me to inspect a car for him. At the time I owned two Dinos and I knew them well. The car was as you see it with 3,700 miles. It was in a large collection in Southern California. With my only comment being the color, I suggested that he purchase the car (at the asking price of $25,000). He took my advice, and enjoyed the cars on weekends around town until 1985, when he became ill. He parked the car in the garage with a cover over it, and soon passed away. He had driven approximately 4,000 miles during those 4 years.

Over the past 20 years I have asked the family that if they ever think of selling the car, I would be interested. They chose to hold on to it until last year, when they telephoned me to offer the car. It had 7,900 miles. I've known the car and family, and am certain of the validity of the mileage. Original paint, interior, books, tools, etc. The previous owner's family had the carburetors rebuilt, brake calipers rebuilt, new rubber, and cleaned up prior to my purchase..

Drives great. I will not touch it. I am restoring my other Dino at this moment, but the value of this car is in its low mileage and originality.

    Thanks.

Great story Jim, I hope you've got someone in the family to pass this car onto when the time is right. it is almost a shame to drive the car in a way and it's good that you've got another one to enjoy to the full.
    Regards,

Graham - thanks for your comments. Yes, I must purchase 3 of everything, as I have 3 sons to leave things to. A sage once said to me, "...never sell anything..." I have been following his advice.

Rush109 - The color grows on you. When I first gazed at it, my reaction was something less than enthusiastic. Now, having it in the garage for 1 year it really is attractive. Most comments from onlookers are favorable. A few love it, a few would not have chosen it. I have grown to really appreciate that it is 1) attractive and 2) rare (I can't imagine that they produced more than a handful of Dinos in this color).
