Anyone seen any interviews of Tom Selleck as to what cars he prefers or owns now?

Was he ever given any F-cars from the factory like Don Johnson was as a thanks?

On the E! True Hollywood Story for Magnum PI, it said that Selleck drove a Porsche 928, and bought 928s for the main cast after a few seasons.

As for now, I have no idea.

Well, he's a bit 'heftier' these days(as seen on 'Las Vegas'), so you can bet he ain't still driving any kind of 308/328.

I do remember a TV interview with him way back in the 80's, where he said he preferred the Mondial cuz it had more headroom, and his eyeballs weren't level with the roof line as one can see in Magnum, P.I. reruns if you look closely.

The 928 was originally going to be the car used for the show. Was decided to use a 308 instead because the top comes off & you can actually see the star during driving scenes.

They did not remove the seat. In one of the episodes, "At Face Value" a buddy of mine who was an intern at the hospital, was in 2 scenes. (This episode was when Magnum caused a car accident and visited an injured girl in the hospital.) He said that Selleck scrunched down and his head still poked out, but he had pictures made with the car.

    The seat was intact.

In many of the episodes, you can see the seat back clearly in place, and the headrest is there too.

    Where did you hear this?

this is true. and even more amazing was that the show producers asked porsche to make a few with bigger sunroofs so that they could use them for the show. they answered....no. amazingly dumb move. btw, i had a 928 s4, and it was a helluva car. far more powerful than the 308.

IIRC, they didn't remove the seat, but move it backward (or the pedals forward, can't remember exactly)

Seems like there is tons of room behind the pedals to make that happen...

I have worked on The TV cars. No mods to the interior or pedals. The stunt car had a metallic race clutch so the stunt guys could abuse it. And that about sums it up.

If you watch closely the seat is scooted up a bit allowing the back to be reclined quite a bit so he fits.

Oh and according to FNA they provided 2 two valve cars and when they got beat up and old they took them back and gave 2 4 valve cars. They were returned, repainted, serviced and sold to people on waiting lists who asked for them. They were sold with warranties too.

Larry Manetti, aka Rick, bought one fo the two valve cars when they were retired from the show. It was my understanding, but I can not state as fact, that the rest of the cars were auctioned off at the end of the series by the studio, not FNA, for the cast and crews favorite charities.

FNA took them back. Through them I have worked on them.

Larry Manetti may have bought one through FNA but the show never owned the cars, they were on loan.

I remember, as a young kid, spotting that they'd changed over to the four-valve car and making sure everyone in the room knew it! Ah, Thursday night family TV in the 80's...

Was on the Universal Stuidios tour on a business junket about 10 years ago and the tram passed a thoroughly neglected/faded 308 said to be one of the Magnum cars. It was parked just ahead of BA's bad A-Team van. A few years later I saw another one labeled as an actual Magnum car at the Peterson museum. Anyone know what the story is here?

Porsche at one time offered the show a free Porsche (not sure if it was a 928) but Porsche was rejected due to the popularity of the Ferrari.
