a new Testarossa? I know the 550/575 are the replacements or whatever, but what about a flat twelve mid-engined red head back in the stable? Any chances of that? I think the only thing preventing it would be that it would be so cool people's heads would explode when they saw it.

    LOL...!!!

Sorry, dude, i don't see it happening anytime soon... Maybe in twenty years or so, who knows... The 612 has a key styling cue from 0456 (the Ingrid Bergman car) - a Ferrari from MANY years ago... i think it will be a long time before they start adopting styling cues fom any 80's cars...

I think a new Testarossa model would work well in the near future.

The Testarossa was an 80s car but I have had folks, who don't know much about ferrari, ask me if my Testarossa was new.

It may be 16 years old but the classic styling is still in step with todays cars.

I could see Ferrari releasing a new version with current styling and believe they would be sold from a waiting list. I know I would want to be on that list.

    Time will tell.

The Testarossa was named for an earlier car. I am not sure it would make sense to name a new model for a car that was already a "re-name".

Also, the Modern TR series was a tribute to the Testa Rossa cars that were part of the Ferrari legend...same for the 288 GTO. As good as the Testarossa series was, I don't see it as legendary.

Recently, cars were named for towns (Maranello, Modena) and early carrozzeria that helped form the legend (Scaglietti). To continue this, candidate names might be:

    CARROZZERIA

Pininfarina - I don't think so, since PF is there present and only body designer.
Touring - a little blah for a name, althought their cars were beautiful.
Vignale - YES, a very real possibility

    TOWNS

Le Mans - also brings back the race and the early LM series cars
Monza - same as for Le Mans...and not French!

    RACES / COURSES

    Le Mans - see above
Mille Miglia - also brings back old model names
    San Marino - GP link
Monza - a rename in some sense

Note the F430 deviates from the town / carrozzeria trend, so maybe the factory is thinking compeltely differently for the next set of names.

    Kevin,

The T-shirt was black, with a prancing dinosaur on the front, for those of us who were considered dinosaurs even back then. On the back it read "I remember when Mondials had four cylinders, GTOs had 12 cylinders, and Testarossa was two words." I think Gerald Roush might have had something to do with making them, along with Dyke Ridgley and a couple of others.

I still have mine, but it doesn't fit me any more.

It could happen. With a little Johney Cash. What is good always comes around again, and again, and again. A V12 & Ferrari is a marrage made in Heaven.

I wasn't sure if the t-shirt came out before the 288 arrived. It's been a while! Look forward to seeing you at either Cavallino or Daytona!

I would love to see it, especially if they made some modern interpretation of the flares, maybe a smoother twist to differentiate it a little, but still have that look.

Do you think there'd be a possibility of a flat12? Or more likely (saying that they made it NOW, a variation of the Enzo's motor?) It makes such a sweet sound.

Slim to none. Ferrari was very unhappy with the trade offs they made to make that car even when they were doing it. I was around Ferrari when they were doing it and they were shaking their heads even before the car was released. The talk of the general layout of the 550 was going on before 85 even came to a close. Unless you wanted to make the car very long the motor had to go on top of the gear box. That created two problems that they had no way around. One was that the heavy part, the motor, went on top causing a much higher center of gravity than it should have. Two was that a flat motor is very wide and unless you want to dangle that great big heavy piece off the back you have to put it between the tires. For suspension geometry to work the control arms have to be so long and even compromising that to the extreme you wind up with a very wide car. No, for a street car it is just not a good layout, too many compromises. In case you haven't noticed none of that entire line (BB, TR, TR512) were famous for great handling or were considered successful race cars. I have one at home in the garage, I happen to like them, but they are yesterday not tomorrow.

If you want retro or yesterdays technology go see Chrysler Corp.

I am definitely believed that mid V12 will be back but not very soon as I think Ferraris will reintroduce in may be 10-15 years time. Styling, fashion trend, retro will come back as there are cycles to these things.
I personnally love the mid engine but have to admit that Ferrari has been doing their good job on 550, 575 and especially 612.
