    Hello Guys

I have a 458 for the past 6 years, which will be staying with me for the rest of my life, unbelievable usability and enjoyment everytime i drive it.
Recently i added a f12, very different drivability and character compared to the 458. F12 requires you to drive over 200km/h to really appreciate the power and the smooth delivery of huge power and torque.
I have cattless novitec on my 458, very loud but somehow suits the personality of the car. F12 on the other hand, is more grown up, and to my surprise has a wonderful intake noise inside the cabin as well.
So, i am thinking that changing the back box and h pipe is unnecessary but maybe just the cats ?
Would anyone have any experience of changing stock cats to 200 cells with stock h pipe and back box ? Really appreciate your feedback.

Changing the cats will do one main thing - add volume. I agree the F12 is more of a grown up grand cruiser than an 458 but I don't think that means it's can't be loud at higher revs... (just don't decat it.... too much). The cabin is well insulated so it wont be excessive inside car.

I would consider also changing H pipe to an X pipe to add higher pitch/scream. Relatively cheap modification. Leave the rear boxes as stock.

I have and tried all 3 (stock, straight pipe, and 200cell). I currently have 200cell installed.

stock sounds fine. I honestly think OEM muffler design is quite good. with valves open, it's pretty much a straight perforated muffler design.

straight pipe does drone but not in that annoying skull vibrating way, just in volume. I hated it not because of the loud noise but because of the constant gasoline smell. I took it out after a month. I will say it is obnoxious on cold start if you have nearby neighbors.

I now have 200 cell. sounds louder than stock but you will loose that high pitch scream you get with the straight pipe reminiscent of the F1 v12. but you won't get the constant gasoline smell.

if I were you, I would start with just the x-pipe and forza valve controller. I found constant stock valve open/close thing pretty annoying. if you want more noise at that point, i guess that just depends on whether you think slight advantage of exhaust scream outweigh your garage smelling like burnt gasoline. not to mention the drivers behind you.

btw, I have seen some videos of exhaust install and everyone seem to mess up the connection between the muffler & rear exhaust section. it's crappy rounded ball connection without gasket and you will need sealant here to avoid exhaust leak. I used acousti seal and it works great. ferrari calls for holts firegum which I purchased but decided not to use from all the bad reviews. many shops I see install these dry.

100 or 200 cell cats. The car interior will start to smell, and it's not a "motorsport" smell. Just a pungent smell of old car...

I disagree that you loose the high pitched scream using 200 cell cats. Mine has 200 cell cats and good lordy does it scream above 6k revs! That is for an 812 but basically the same engine.

i agree the car sounds phenomenal with either choice. imho 200cell doesnt match the clarity of the tone thru straight pipe. but the downsides are real. besides, having straight pipe is like listening to your favorite music at the max volume nonstop. When I want to hear it, there is nothing better, but I don't always want to listen to the same music at the max volume at all times esp when there are other people around. Having said all this, I kept my straight pipe so when I want to carve through the canyons listening to the straight V12, I can always put it on for the occasion.

What about changing the x pipe with the 200 cells or keeping the stock mid pipe ?

This sometimes works well to counteract drone. The x-pipe smoothes out the sound and dampen some of the lower frequencies. It doesn't add a lot of volume, but rather just change the sound. If you want to highlight the higher pitched sounds, the x-pipe is an option to consider.
