Were we all wrong about the FF?

In a world filled with mediocrity, and getting worse; and in a world where virtually everything is being homogenized into a common formula of style, a veritable and regretable and forgetable regression to the mean--every Ferrari is special, and stands as a shining beacon, a lighthouse to guide us in!

 

Was at Ferrari of Silicon Valley on Friday and they had a grigio (?) FF. Best color I've seen so far. Car looked elegant and powerful. Spectacular!

There's one at Steve Harris right now, looks like Rosso Maranello. Looks great.

 

No doubt the FF is a controversial car among the fans... it shows!!!

 

Saw it in person. Liked everything except the side view. Looks like a 2 door panamera.

 

I dunno....I kinda like the side view.

FF is stunning.

I hated the FF in photos but once I looked at the car in person I completely change my mind, funny how that happens....

Saw and drove the FF today at FNE. Loved it! As others have said it looks much better in person. Don't knock it until you see it in the "flesh".

By the way, I also think my nero California is the best looking car on the road today.

Much better than the LFA but the front end is way too over-done IMHO.

 

I'm sure the back seats would work if you didn't have legs, it's design isn't the boldest either

 

I think it's a lot better than the FF. (Not rear leg room but overal look) FF's rear seats aren't too bad.

 

Gee, who do you think they might be copying? That looks more like a Ferrari than the FF does.

 

Anyone else amazed by the fact that the LFA's V10 will rev to its 9Krpm limit in less than a second? Can we put that engine in a mid-engine car, please?

 

Jim, do you feel Ferrari should exit the 2+2 market?

 

I had the opportunity to test drive one this past Saturday and my thoughts on it...

Great power, drives the way a modern Ferrari should drive. You do not feel the weight of the four wheel drive in the steering at all in the steering wheel the way I did in a Gallardo. Suspension felt great, steering response was firm and quick, but a little numb to me compared to older cars. You get a very confident and planted feeling driving through curvy roads that have 35-45 MPH speed limits. You have faith that should you manage to slide the tail at all, the car will catch itself and plant you down again before you even think about your next action. Paddle shifts were pretty much the same as in a California, you run through the gears pretty quickly and you find yourself in triple digits without much effort. The exhaust soundtrack, I found myself driving at the speedlimit and simply enjoying the tones. Sound is a bit amplified, especially riding in the back seat which is bearable (I'm 5'9" 165 lbs with a 32" inseam). Kids would definitely be comfortable back there and occupied with the video system should they get bored.

Visuals, this is the first front engined V12 Ferrari that I have driven and once you're in the car, you forget that you're in a hatchback. That said, I've never been a fan of hatchbacks. I was not a fan of Civic hatchbacks as a teen nor was I a fan of the M Coupes, and having a prancing horse on it did not change my mind with the FF. While I love the front of the car, even if looking out the front windshield and seeing the long nose took some getting used to, I am not a fan of the car behind the A pillar. Sure it drives great and if I had a family and had to have only one Ferrari, I'd consider it. Although, I much prefer the looks of the 612 over the FF...the performance on the other hand, is top tier.

Personally no but other's do. Meg has a Bentley 2+2 which I like a lot but Ferrari 2+2's don't interest me.

That is simply a personal opinion.

 

Jim, I can empathize with your point of view. Thank you for sharing.

 

Ferrari has always done a 2+2 and I hope they always will. I have always been a fan of them and to tell you the truth if I had unlimited money to spend on a DD, the FF is at the top of the list. It is quite a polarizing car and an even more polarizing concept for Ferrari.

 

I'm with you there, 2+2s are fine, but I do think that Ferrari needs to exit the hatchback market. JMO.
