So I replace the spark plugs and coils on my 360 and I get this miss. I change the new coils to old ones and STILL have the miss... so I pull the plugs.

And I doing so.. this happens.

(I'll be the first to admit I'm an idiot that over torqued it. I thought I de-threaded the cylinder threads for a minute but then reality set in)

In case anyone else runs into this.. it's going to be OK...

Go to Harbor Freight and buy their bolt extractor set for $40. (https://www.harborfreight.com/multi-spline-screw-extractor-set-15-piece-59194.html) (
    ICONMulti-Spline Screw Extractor Set, 15-Piece)
Take the 1/4 inch extractor out of the set and put it into a 13mm socket. Wrap it in electrical tape so it won't wiggle out. Then insert it into what remains of the old spark plug. Turn counter clockwise. The splines in the extractor will grab onto the inner part of the spark plug that remains in the cylinder head. Turn counterclockwise as if unscrewing it and the spark plug bit will come out. Once the old spark plug body is out, there will be no tension on the threads of the remaining bit in the engine.

*sigh* I know.. I'm an idiot. But it happens. Posting this in case anyone is in a similar pickle.

Replace my spark plug and valve cover gasket. Bought it from Amazon. At first car start with no problem. After turning off the car and tried starting again, the car look like is going to.die. so I turn it off and check the codes. And most of the cylinder have a misfire. So check it out everything back again, took off all the spark plug. And install it back. Clean off the coil. And put it right back. There's no check engine light but the car acting like they're dying. Same problem so I didn't know what to do I stop everything thinking a broke something. After a day of sourting, reading and researching still cant figure out thing. To make the story short my friend mechanic suggested to replacing all of the coil. Check it online and it's around 80$ each but it coming from Europe that about 15 days max before they arrive. So called the local dealer. Ask for the coil he said 1000$ each each each again each... OMG no kidding. Called up my friend and ask to check again the code. And called me back he said he repalce all the spark plug and the car runs ok now. Wtf this thing killing me for the whole week.... so it's fix. I suggest buy your spark plug from your local auto store specially we don't know how Amazon handles our spark plug. Hope u guys Learned something.

The degree to which counterfeit spark-plus and coils are now endemic on Amazon and eBay is rendering those platforms unusable. Even small part shops are not immune to the disease.

Really getting ridiculous with these crappy, don't give a damn, rip off companies. Something's got to give. I own a shop and the worst part about it these days are incidents just like this. Legit manufacturers better find a way to authenticate their products or this kind of thing is going to ruin a lot of trusted brands. I install parts that should-- and used to-- last years now lasting only a handful of months. Makes my business life miserable.

I've been putting off changing my plugs because I was afraid of breaking one. The threads are long and the the metal is thin. Looks like it wants to break. My plugs are original too, so are likely in pretty tight.

Thanks @vrsurgeon for the writeup. You give me confidence. Harbor Freight is right nearby too.

I did the plugs in my 430, easy enough if you have the right length extension bar, i welded the plug socket to mine and glued in the rubber grommet that grabs the plug. No chance of it all falling apart in the hole

I have a nice set of locking extensions and the correct plug socket. It's the spark plugs I've been worrying about. I've never broken one before but I've never had a car with the plugs so deep in the manifold and difficult to see.

you must have soiled yourself when you pulled it out originally, then you must have passed out when you got the remainder of it out with the HF tool. You had a stressful few days. May I recommend a nice bourbon and a stogie to recover....

Hmm, none of this sounds reassuring, I was initially thinking this would all be fine having done plugs many times in other cars with no issues.

I DID say some choice words.. and then priced a new head online. But, played it out in my head and then when it came out I had the biggest sigh of relief.

In the end.. if it was one of the Porsches, or an Audi or a VW.. it's still the same.

Lesson when putting in the NGK plugs: turn by hand until can't turn anymore and then go a quarter of a tun. There isn't a reassuring endpoint like other motors.
Turn by hand > then maybe quarter of a turn with the wrench.
Lesson learned and miss then went away. :)

Don't worry it's just like any other car with a caveat of just be extra cautious. Don't overturn the plug. Just needs to seat.

On a 430, if you shorten the extension bar you can it to the right length so you can use a torque wrench on it.

vrsurgeon was very lucky that the ceramic portion came out with the plug and only the metal sleeve remained. If the ceramic center has broken off and stayed with the engine, it would have been a lot worse. They make a kit for that extraction too. No fun.
