Taken from page 47 of the official brochure of 458 Speciale.

I read and calculate and am still unable to arrive at the total saving of 90kg. Where is the additional savings of 14kg? Is there something that the brochure is choosing to miss out?

What are the optional equipment that will actually help to reduce weight further in order to achieve the purported kerb weight of 1395kg without fuel?

I think another 4 kg come from the full carbon you can order for the engine compartment. Then they removed the radio and so on and so probably another kg or even more ? But still not clear how they arrived at 90 kg..

the weight off the engine is probably from lighter exhaust, I doubt they used any exotic internal components to shed weight.

I read that the engine bay carbon surrounds only saves 1.2kg.

    Could it be electrical seats?

Radio and Sat nav probably contribute 8kg total for 2 door speakers (1.2kg each), antenna, wiring looms and amplifier(4.5kg) ?

F430GT has previously explained that "...The 2011 cars have a thinner gauge aluminum used on the body and they are around 30 lbs lighter (thanks to the 458 Challenge)"

    Here is that post:
    http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/142020976-post16.html

Starting from here, evenif Ferrari quotes 1380 kg dry weight for italia, it is for the 2010 production car. Later cars have dry weight of 1366 kg which is 76 kg heavier than lightest Speciale, not 90 kg.

So don't forget to add or subtract this fact.

Has anyone known if the Speciale forged wheels are lighter than italia's forged wheels?

Page 43 of the brochure states:
"The forged 20" wheels feature a new design, resulting in a weight reduction of over 12kg."

that's an average of 3kg per wheel!
I wonder which wheel type is the benchmark?

The fire wall is 50% thinner than that on 458 . Lighter parts used in the engine . Overall 90 kg reduction not surprise . One can reduce a couple of more kgs by throwing away the manuals and tools in the car !

very interesting tks.I would remember for those that still didn't know that tks to a new technology the bonnet of the Speciale (and other parts) have a thickness of just 0.9 mm to reduce the weight..It is incredible since it is less than a fingernail thickness..
