Flicking through an old TOFM magazine, issue 16, March 2012, which focuses on the launch of the F12 shows some very revealing clay models and design concepts of the F12. One of the models looks very close to the now 812. Cant help think the 812 was almost designed as part of the F12 process over x10 years ago. I know which one I prefer....the one they got right the first time.

Often ideas that didn't make the cut the first round get recycled into new concepts. The same thing with the Pista; it uses design elements that were proposed with the LaFerrari but not used in the final design.

    Great finding and very interesting.
The first developments of the F12 design started with Donato Coco that became Ferrari’s chief designer in 2005. When Coco left for Lotus Flavio Manzoni took the job and started in January 2010 continuing with the development. However the first sketches of the F12, some reproduced below, were done at Pininfarina house during the last weeks of 2009 and they were published in the french magazine Automobiles in October 2012. The F12 aero bridges are seen in some of the initial Pininfarina sketches and they were "invented" by Franco Cimati the responsible of studies and concepts at Pininfarina. One of the sketches below that was done afterwards by Andrea Militello from Ferrari design studio, shows the aerobridges and the Kamm tail almost in their final versions.
Looking to the model you discovered, to the first sketches made by Pininfarina in 2009 and to the 812 I think we can conclude that this style of rear has been imagined a long time ago.

Interesting that even today the PF website lists F12 as: "The 82-year excellence of Pininfarina design was also reflected at Geneva in a new, extraordinary Ferrari, the F12berlinetta, penned by Pininfarina in cooperation with the Maranello Style Centre."

The 2009 old first sketches of the F12 coming from Pininfarina I suspect have also influenced another later car. The early sketch of the grey F12 proposed by Pininfarina was rejected by Ferrari but there is a one-off, the Touring Berlinetta Lusso made by Carrozzeria Touring and based on the F12 and unveiled in 2015 at the Geneva Motor Show, that shows some similarities.
Ferraris design is an art and there are some who have mastered it better than others.
