I am looking at an f8 that has a novitec exhaust on it, warranty expires in a couple months. Am I able to extend the warranty through Ferrari with the aftermarket exhaust? I am getting conflicting information.

The original exhaust can be put back on, but would prefer the novitec if it doesn't void extending the warranty.

Depends on the dealer (although ultimately Ferrari). Go for it.

Stepping aside now for the Todd’s to chime in….

You won't be able to renew the warranty with the exhaust on the car.

I would negotiate with the dealer to replace the original (which should be included with the car, if it isn't then walk), renew the warranty and the replace the Novitec system as part of the deal.

Dealers all have an individual stance, some are happy to turn a blind eye where reasonable, others it's a flat out no.
Any time any imagery needs to go to the factory in order for work to be approved, the factory will always refuse.

Most dealers are happy to balance this; if the fault is clearly unrelated to the exhaust but they need to send pics to the factory they'll let you pop the original on, they'll do the work and then you can put the Novitec back on.

For what it's worth, the exhaust is completely transformative - you will absolutely love it.

As Andy has said, let's wait for the Todd's to rock up and catastrophise. No matter what they say, Ferrari very rarely requires you to sacrifice your firstborn as penance for putting an exhaust on your car :p

With an F8 to do after market exhaust means the GPF and the electronic controlled exhaust valves were removed...thus a tune to the ECU. Some F8 exhaust also do 200 cel cats or down pipes to remove the cats...yes the ECU needs to be tuned to accept more flow like this either way.

It is not totally up to the dealer on warranty...the dealer does not set those parameters, Ferrari the manufacture does and the warranty is with Ferrari the manufacture not the dealer.

Can the dealer sneak the ECU tune and exhaust by Ferrari the manufacture? That is what the dealer will have to do to get a Ferrari manufacture approved warranty.

  5. I like the way the F8 sounds stock.

If you’re calling plugging in the Tectronic module into the ODB port a tune then yes, deleting the GPF with say, a Novitec x-pipe Race exhaust will require a tune to the ECU. Otherwise, no, it doesn’t.

This isn't entirely correct - the car will need to manage GPF warning lights if you change the rear silencer, and catalyst inefficiency errors if you change the downpipes.

One solution is absolutely to map the car, but Novitec almost invariably supply an OBD unit called the Tectronic which manages the lights and does not necessitate a tune.

Therefore you can simply remove the OBD unit, replace the original parts and the car is left bone stock,

    Just for clarity's sake here

Rear silencer contains GPFs - if you change it you need to tune
Replacing downpipes with decat/sport cat - cat inefficiency errors

Either way, any change to the F8 exhaust requires either a tune or a Tectronic.

Something else to consider is that it will more than likely not pass state inspection.
The Tectronic unit will " manage " the light which's translates to "turns it off ".... when annual state inspection time comes around, the readiness codes will not be set, which trigger a fail.

Yes you can do the Novi techtronic way…. Can you imagine the hassle and expense to go back in every year to take off the mod exhaust and reinstall the stock exhaust before you take the car into the dealer for an oil change or any other service?
Can you imagine the expense and hassle having to put the stock exhaust back on every time you go for state inspection or a trip to the dealer for service? No thanks!

Hasn’t been my experience on either argument but on the one side we don’t have state inspections. :)

Keep it simple and replace the muffler with an X pipe. The exhaust note will be more than satisfying.

Thanks for everyone's help with this. They agreed to take it off, extend warranty, and put it back on as part of the deal.
