I want to get an eliptical crosstrainer for the home.
Any thoughts about brands to look at / avoid?
    Reliable? Need lots of maintainance?
Quite a price spread in my first look at them.
what about a "used" one? Lots of machines out there used as coat hangers!
    thanks!

I'm in the fitness business and personally own a Precor 546efx. Look for a used commercial unit. That's what I have. Precor's are also the only ones with a varying ramp which allows you to change the motion.

Life fitness is also a great brand but they only have dual action with no varying ramp elevation. Their commercial models are the X9 series.

Don't buy a new residential unit, not worth it for what you get. You'll spend less and get better quality and durability with commercial unit. They're built for 15hrs day use. In home will last forever.

Feel free to pm me if you need more info

May I recommend you save your money and buy a jump rope, rubber pulley-belt, pullup bar last focus on calisthenics sit ups, pushups lunges.
The less equipment the more movement.
