Went to check out a (Feb) 2013 Cali30 over the weekend at a dealer here in LA. Drove well - has some small cosmetic issues considering age and mileage: 43k.

Went back today and took it over to Giuseppe @ F&M Motorsports on Pico for a PPI. Great guy. Here's the hit-list:

    • Oil leak from engine at oil pan
    • Small gear oil leak at transaxle
    • Motor mounts are collapsed and need replacing
    • Front tires are worn on the inside edge - alignment and new front tires needed
    • Rear undercar panel is cracked - needs replacing
    • Front under panel is scraped, not essential to replace
    • Minor cosmetic scratches and small (finger tip size) dent in hood
    • Road test - car performed well, noticed a slight pull to the left (alignment issue)
    • Test with computer - no faults present at this time.
    • Rear tread = 6mm
    • Front pads thickness = 7mm
    • Rear pads thickness = 6mm
    • Small damage (chipping) to left rear carbon ceramic rotor

Dealer has this up for $95k, which clearly with the mileage and this list is nowhere near a good price. So the big question - make an offer and get the essentials fixed up or just walk walk walk!?

    TIA for any feedback.

Why walk? If people say walk, it would be much more relevant if they had some concrete reasons as to why.

Find out what it will cost to get the leaks fixed. Motor mounts are common, so that is needed in most cases anyway. Then get the cracked pan replaced.

The alignment is a non-issue. That you can get done elsewhere. Takes about 45 mins.

Pads are about 50% sovthat is fine. What is the wear on the discs?

A deal could be the price, but on the condition that the dealer fixes the four essentials, meaning the two leaks, pan and mounts.

If he does not want go do that, sure, find another car. But don't write it off untill you have weighted all options.

I'd ask Giuseppe for an estimate to address all that stuff. Then go from there...T

Fair points but considering the mileage, once the new owner has placed a chunk of miles on it there may be issues later getting a buyer when updating, even with everything in good running order. There are plenty of low mileage options out there for the same if not less money.
It's my opinion. I have the same car, same year and 15k KMS, warranty and dealer only attention. I'd be happy with a 95k offer for it so the one in question looks to me not to be one to go for. Hence "walk".

A few questions: Will this be your first Ferrari? Is this a Ferrari dealer? What is the dealer's reputation? Have you been looking at them for awhile? Are you a "car guy" or do you know someone who can give an objective opinion? What kind of service records are available? And, finally, do you love this car and will you be able to live with the known defects?

Walk.....there is NO way the dealer drops the price enough to fix the essentials. He will wait on the sucker who doesn’t get a PPI or come look at the car.....and we are seeing a bunch of those on the forum these days so I have no doubt a sucker will be found.

Just looked at this car on Kelley Blue Book website. It certainly is pretty! I noticed there are only 7 Cali 30's within 500 miles of you. This car also has the HS package, which was a $7000 option. If you like the feel of the suspension, that is important. If you want a Cali 30, and want to see and drive the car, your options are limited. Just make sure you feel comfortable with the transaction. Mounts and leaks should be fixed by the dealer. Also check battery age. If close to 3 years, this needs replacing also.

Sounds like a rental, in a matter of a few days or weeks at most, someone will list a well loved perfectly cared for low mileage, no stories excellent condition Cali 30.
Pay 5-10 K more and have a Ferrari you can just drive and enjoy. Instead of a leaking, dented needs lots of work beater with high mileage.

Sounds like a lot of trouble on the car. I was in the in the same position as you not to long ago, listen to the people on this forum is my best advice. And follow your gut...when you know its the car, you rarely ask questions but you can only jump in if you have researched the vehicle and ownership.

This one is about 2 hours from me, they keep dropping the price. If color is not an issue, looks clean:

This car is quite far from the OP, if he's in L.A. My advice is to relax, take a breath, do research on F-Chat, and narrow your selection. You want a car you can be proud of. One will come along.

The rotor damage is concerning, those rotors cost a fortune. I don't like the oil leak at the transaxle, either. I would keep on looking.

Looking at the dealer, is it Autobahn Auto Sales? Not so sure they know about F cars.

I would say "walk." There are other options out there if you're patient. My 2015 Cali T is at the dealer getting an oil leak fixed and it's an engine-out service. Small things cost a lot on these cars. The front camera was cracked during shipping and that's a $3000 part for some reason.

Great responses, thanks all! Some answers:
    * Yes this will be my first Ferrari after decades of 911s. I do basic DIY maintenance (oil, filters etc) on the P-Cars but nothing crazy.
    * Dealer is Autobahn yes - pretty small lot south of mid city LA. I would assert from having been there a few times now they arent Ferrari specialist by any means.
    * Service history goes from 2013 - 2016 always at Ferrari of Newport Beach, and then stops (at ~4000 miles). It now has 10 times the mileage on it.
    * I organized and paid for the PPI myself out of pocket. When I came back to the dealer with F&M's report in hand he (obviously) acted surprised and started talking about "discounts"
    * I have been researching and looking locally for examples online for ~3-4 months now. This is the first one I have test driven and PPI'd.
    * I am attached to the options, exterior color and other factors, and could live with the minor cosmetics if the major stuff was taken care of. As someone else pointed out, I am aware of the lack of local options - certainly much scarcer than buying used 911s, especially in LA.

    Is this the car?
    https://www.autobahnmotors.biz/details/used-2013-ferrari-california/68097263

Is color Rosso California? Rosso Mugello? Very sharp looking colors indeed.

These would be the things that worry me...

10x on odo in 4 years?!? Wow!

It took me about 2 years - and a swift kick in the rear from my wife - to find my unicorn. If this one gives you good vibes, go for it.
But, would not rush it. I might think about expanding your search nationwide or at least regional. If you can find one you like at an F-dealer,
or larger independent, then I am sure they can arrange PPI (F-chat is a good resource on local recommendations), shipping, etc.

Good luck in the hunt for "the one." It's a big part of the fun of ownership...T

The lack of service history would be the most troubling aspect for me. Was this car regularly serviced, or neglected. You don't know.

Have you tried Yellow Compass, or a similar finder service? That may be a good direction in which to go (no pun intended).

Agree...service is free for the first 7 years so very odd they don’t have it until now. If the owner stopped servicing aT Ferrari I would walk..just doesn’t make a lot of sense.
