While traveling east on I-30 between Fort Worth and Arlington the Sunday before Easter I was passed by a black Volvo S70 with dark tinted windows and Ferrari shields on the front fenders. Is that someone on this list?????????? Just wondering.....

Did it have Black Wheels, Black trim, Black tint, Black everything you could possibly paint black?

I was thinking it could have been Carbon for a sec.

I was hoping, beyond reasonable belief, that it might actually have been a Ferrari owner who just happened to like the looks of the Scuderia Ferrari.

Funny thing about the M emblems on regular Bimmers. When I had the McLaren, my wife and son were riding with me on north Green Oaks going west about Legacy Park when a maroon 325 with chrome exhaust tips, a rear wing, M wheels and an M badge on the trunk pulled up beside me at the redlight and actually challenged me to a race. I knew the guy, didn't like him as he was a real smart *ss, and turned his request down. He kept on while we were at the light, yelling about all the "MODS and improvements" he had made on the car (exhaust tips, wheels, a cheap wing and the infamous M badge). He said he could blow real M cars in the weeds. And he said he could do the same to the "kit car" I was driving...........grin.......

My wife looked over and recognized him and said "James, why don't you just blow his friggin doors off? Kitchen pass in hand, when the light turned green we were off. The acceleration was so intense that it threw my sons head against the back of the thinly padded seat and almost knocked him out ( he had been leaning forward when the light changed so he took the full g force of the acceleration throwing him back). I shifted to second and was over a full block ahead of the poser when I noticed that my son (who was seven at the time) was crying due to the pain of the bump on his head. I slowed and pulled over to the side of the road, loosened my seat belts and turned to check on him. About this time the poser came, shall I say roaring past, pointing and laughing.

The next day the poser had the nerve to come into the dealership with his buddies bragging about how he had "taken the old man in the kit car". I took his buddies out to the McLaren and let them look at it. One of them knew what the car was and just began laughing at the stupidity of the poser. He told the other buddies about the car and what it could really do and they too began laughing and taunting the poser. I offered to go back out in the "kit" and run him for pink slips if he thought his car was so bad. He made all kinds of excuses and slunk out of the dealership. He did not bother me again............

    Wes,

Were you driving out of FOH when you had your 360 Challenge car? I am trying to place you. I was with them at Houston and then Dallas from Sept 1 2000 until May of 2003. Would you have been driving during that time??

HAHAHA....I misread the title and thought it said "Volvo with Ferrari Problems". :D What, a Volvo with a $30K service bill? After reading....I stand corrected. *sigh* That's what I get for viewing posts on here while tired.

He actually thought it was a kit car until one of his buddies I allowed to see it got it through his mush for brains just what it really was.

I have written about things like this several different times. Go to my profiles and click on threads started by me and you will see several about my time with my friends McLaren. My profile picture is the car with my son waving out the passenger right side. There is a passenger left side also. That is where my wife was riding.......

No, I didn't run challenge. I have/had some old challenge cars, but never wanted to drop all the coin to play the game. One of these days I might give the HSR series a go, but I am really no fan of Porsche, and I just don't think the 348 or 355 will cut it against it's peers in the class.

Yes sir. The cost to run the Challenge series was prohibitive to say the least. It was better after they changed the rules and did not make the owners compete the whole season. Just a little more affordable if you could call it so...

And it has been proven in SCCA racing that the 348 and 355 are classed wrong and will not run with the tops guns in their classes. Several years ago, 2000 I believe, one of the lady driving instructors who ran out of FoH (I think her name was Carolyn) drove Ken Rices white 355 Challenge car at the SCCA Nationals and finished in the top five. She said that was all she could get out of the car and it just could not keep up.....
