    Why not?

I don't think the estimate was anywhere near what it should have been.

The early items are very sought after and very rare, which means they are very expensive.

Just my opinion, but 55.346 $ seems a little bit much, and 'why not' ? because I don't believe in all those sales like ebay types with crazy prices......

Wait until the Sotheby's auction at Ferrari that's coming up. Be prepared to be amazed at the prices people are willing to pay for some of this stuff...

I just spoke with Karen Vaucher at (631)329-8580. She said the price listed above was totally correct. Apparently, two bidders really wanted it and one was prepared to do whatever it took.

We just saw a 275 Brochure hit 14,000.00 or something like that on Ebay. The two Brochures listed are much more rare than that. The signed letter is worth thousands also. Mine is handwritten, I wonder what the market will bear for that today?

Does anybody know if there are reprints of the early 166 brochure?

I saw one (not sure if real or repro) in amogst a pile of papers in a ring binder a few years ago andyes it did have 2 holes punched in it!

This is getting insane. The highest price I was aware of is something like $30,000 for the first Scuderia Ferrari publication in 1929. What is that worth now?

FWIW, a Lamborghini GTV brochure just went for $3500, and last year one was purchased for something like $100. It's not so much that this stuff is worth that much more as we go forward in time, but it really depends on who is bidding and who knows about the sale. There are some guys out there with seemingly unlimited resources that simply want something -- when you get 2 guys like that after the same thing, and want it right now, you get these crazy prices.

"Worth" is a relative thing. Take a match to that brochure and it's suddenly worthless! :-O

(well, don't do that, it's just a thought experiment...)

    Cheers,

    Fred
