Would like to get some input here on various F40 exhaust setups for a planned track day.

The noise limitation is 103 db at 60 feet.

I would like to get some feedback on whether 103db would be exceeded with the following setups.

    1) Stock Exhaust

    2) Cats + Tubi Muffler

    3) Cats + Straight pipe (tubi LM pipes)

    4) no Cats + straight pipe

    Track is Laguna Seca...:)

Any thoughts and opinions are appreciated !

    one of these might help...

It's en electronic valve in the exhaust witch opens/closes via a button in the cockpit...Will reduce the noise level sufficiently in pretty much all cases. Try it with open straight pipes first and if they moan close them:)

I can't speak to the db levels, however I believe there are a few Iphone apps that allow you to measure decibel levels. Might be worth figuring out how loud your current set up is and/or finding another F40 with a different setup to measure.

I think the clarification might be that the aforementioned decibel value is one at 'open throttle' and not idle?

I'm afraid if you have 3 or 4 you might want to get it measured. Plenty of time to do so, and might be a fun exercise to know.

    Jas,

As you know, my father was a Tubi dealer before the company changed hands.

    He installed all three setups.

I am no sound expert but have been around enough cars that exceeded Florida State 98 decibel law. : )

Setup number 4 Tubi Straight with No Cats will be too loud and personally it is not a pretty tone, very aggressive.

Setup number 2 is my personal favorite as you can still hear the Turbos and it is not too loud, but a much more appealing tone.

Without having a decibel meter I would say that Setup 3 at speeds would go over the limit for LS.

    Just my personal experience.

Jas, I cannot comment on volume, but I will say that the cats on the F40 should be removed - there's a lot of power to be gained for not much money... Tubi UK should be able to advise.

Use Hyperflow cats and an aftermarket muffler. That should be within the acceptable range.

Various strategies :))) exist to conform to noise reg limitations of 103db. One involves a simple bolt on tip that directs exhaust down...looking for a simple solution for those exhausts that might not conform without changing mufflers etc.

When I was at Laguna I was hitting 111 dec with Tubi straight and no cats, kicked off the track.

I put on Tubi Sport Muffler no cats, was hitting 107, kicked off the track.

I went back out and just learned to soft pedal between turn 5 and 6.... good luck!

(Rob Lay was pitted next to me with his 355 Challenge car, never could make that quiet enough)

Thanks Chris, definitely need to be judicious between 5 + 6. I'm hopeful that at the very least, cats and LM pipes might pass with some on track "care taken".
