Just got my F430 last week. I just put the front license plate on the dash board for now. I just wonder how many of you guys had put the front license plate on your car? Is there any way that I can put the plate on the front bumper without drilling holes to it?

I recall when I had my 355 w/o drilled holes for license plate, it seemed such a big deal to me to retain the car w/o holes. Thus I self-made a bracket that clamped onto the grill and held the front plate on that way.

When I got my 04 modena, it already had holes drilled in it, with plate and so I just shrugged. Same thing now with my CS, holes and plate, and I've forgotten its even an issue anymore. Many have plates with holes, some don't, doesn't really even compute in my thinking these days.

Regarding no plate or plate, of course that's a different issue. Being targets for radar traps, they love to slap on a warning or ticket for no plate. Having one just dumps that as an issue and instills peace of mind.

In short, one can make the "no holes in the bumper" an issue or just forget it and move on. I don't think it matters any more.

    Good luck.

try putting / tapping it on the sunvisor, not my idea but i saw on a red f430. if it is a spider just put it behind the seat, i am pretty sure they wont give you a ticket, once again it is just my opinion.

I had my 430 for over a year now, just got my first ticket for no front plate on Robson about 3 weeks ago. Most cops are nice enough to ignore the absent front plate, there's just the occasional rightous one that NEEDS to enforce the law. I still elect to not put on a front plate.

Hey chipmunk, how are you. :)

I saw you and your beautiful red 430 Spider a couple weeks back in Caulfield. Looks like you have installed aftermarket exhausts on your car. Pretty nice sound I must say.

do not bother, until you get your first ticket.

like previously mentioned, most cops are nice enough.

Not a big fan of front plates on the 360 or 430. I have not had a front plate on my corvette for about a year now, never been stoped.

Thanks for the advice, guys. I guess I will just leave the front plate on the dash for now.

do not bother leaving them on the dash, unless you want a very sharp metal projectile flying at you or your passenger.

I tend to avoid Robson street for that reason - too much attention. I've gone 18 months without a front plate on a 348 - I think the grey hair helps :D

I figure if you're going to get a ticket, add on the $'s for the plate. Otherwise likely ok.

Reviving a dead thread here, but just be aware that you can get your license plate converted into a decal (sticker) that they paste on the front of the car. i did this after getting pulled over 3 times on the same day (2nd day i had my car) in Richmond. The decal works well on the lambo because of the gap in between the front bumper vents. should work on the F-car too. I got mine arranged through Weissach ($100) and I'm sure FMOV can do the same.

Also, be aware that keeping on the front dash, trunk, seat etc won't fly. At least based on my experience (constantly getting pulled over) each cop had a different view. At first i had the front plate in the trunk (was pulled over twice, 2nd cop said put it on the dash). Then I had it on the dash ... was pulled over again. Cop had a bad day and decided to ticket me.

This all happened on my 2nd day of driving the car. Decided there would be no respite and just got the decal. Saves alot of time on the side of the road, embarassment and any concerns one might have over RV if they drill holes.

I've seen the sticker on a 997 gt3, and have thought about doing the same on my 997....but on my 430, I think the area on the front would not be wide enough.

wonder if you'd get any grief for resizing the sticker down to the width of the front bumper..i.e. would it be noticeable?

also the front plate law seems like a ridiculous cash grab... It's legal not to have one in Quebec, and Alberta...and life sill goes on there...Any one know why we have this law?

No idea why the laws vary between provinces but that would seem an uphill battle with alberta/quebec more likely to fall in line than the reverse.

As for the re-sizing, I don't think it would be a problem at all. In fact, I had the top and bottom of my license plate decal cut-off so I could fit it. If the part of the plate with the actual letters/digits doesn't fit after trimming it down the sides, I don't see any problem in re-sizing it slightly. Just having something on the front bumper is what's most important and it would be foolish for any cop to cite a resized plate as an offense. Definitely worth it in my view.
