With all of the technology that Ferrari is capable of, Why is there no valet feature to put the car in limp mode so it can't be abused ? Not talking about an alarm but something that limits the power caballilty of the car and raises it so it does not get scratched on low driveway entrances ?

+1. I like it. And also have it save the clutch! Hey maybe there's an app :)
If I hear a valet say "Don't worry I know how to drive this car" again by someone whose experience is limited to their valet job and xBox, I tell you what! And the valet who acts like the $50 tip to just leave it where it sits doesn't cut it and he needs the key to move the car around, etc.... irritating BS IMO.

I love this idea! Amazing that it hasn't been done by any kind of luxury manufacturer yet.

This has "Shark Tank" written all over it. Make a retro-fit. Maybe have it run completely off electric motor.

Lots of other cars have had this for decades... great idea but not a new one (a separate valet key and it reduces hp and access to locked compartments like trunk and glove box). I agree Ferrari should incorporate it. But then again a $40K car comes with cruise control, great a/c and stereo and a $325K Ferrari doesn't.

More or less an ap that lets you the owner of the car know whats going on, and motion cameras when someone gets close to your car, why how many times has our cars have been dinged by people who dont care. or someone parking to close. Still though its a good thing to have. To pay for such a legendary experience in ownership why not have Ferrari have the set the new lead for app technology. ?

Make it run on a Kers system :), but simple modification + an I phone / android ap that allows the owner to know whats going on when.

HR People at VW and Chrysler don't seem to like my style of thinking. Too much of a loose cannon.

most of the car companies have the app already. I know for sure that bmw has a rev and speed limiting function. Tesla can even tell you how fast and what distance has been made via app. It is a technology already establishing fast.

How does the BMW system work? Not technically, but how does the owner activate it, if you know about it?

    Was this for me?
I have a new BMW on order and have never heard of such systems before. Just wondered how they work.

My car is always on no valet mode. I refuse to valet it. I mainly take it for canyon runs. When I need to valet park a car, I just take my five year old beater.

Wait, don't most of the valet's belong to someone son of wealthy families that peeper Dubai landscape ? In that case let them valet it and wad it up into a ball of scrap at that point. :).
    and get a free new 458. J/K. :).

Just putting this thread out there as I have mentioned valets feel that sense of entitlement they have to abuse your car, since they don't have one and it would be nice to see some sort of app / feature that reduces everything to 30% and locks the glove box engine lid and a video record feature to see inside and outside of the car.

Not at all, just wanted to know about that feature that is completely unheard of on BMW at the moment.

I have worked as a valet before and have driven a variety of cars. I remember taking an e92 M3. we needed to pull out onto a busy street to get to the other lot for parking and so needed to use a little more speed to merge. This one had the revs limited at 3k rpm and did not let me go above 35mph. I could imagine that the valet mode could be activated on the iDrive. I did not check since it was not my car.
At a different event a guest that owned a tesla came out and we starting talking about the car as it was new at the time. He showed me an app on his Iphone where I could see exactly the route that the car took, the speed, the kw used and time of travel. He was fully informed. Its definitely a good monitoring tool.

The E9X M3 did not have any type of valet mode. What it did have was an adjustable rev limiter, but this was designed to protect the engine. When the car was cold, the rev limiter was lowered to about 5k rpm to reduce the chance of damage. As the car warmed up, the rev limiter would go back to normal. I had a 2011 M3 sedan and can 100% say that the rev limiter was never below 5k rpms. From what you said above, it sounds like you were bouncing off of the limiter. Had you up shifted you would have been able to go over 35mph.

I currently have a '14 M5 and there is no "valet mode" at all. It doesn't exist with BMWs. There is no setting for anything like that within the iDrive.

My guess is that it would be a huge liability. Imagine this scenario...

A guy drops off his 575bhp M5 at the valet and doesn't tell him that it is in this new "valet mode". The owner set the "valet mode" to 35mph or 3k RPM. The valet has to bring the car around the corner to the parking lot. As the valet pulls out in traffic he is unable to accelerate enough to get up to the speed limit (imagine a 45mph limit) and gets in an accident.

In this litigious society I imagine the lawsuits would be plentiful.

Traffic isn't flowing 100% all of the time across a busy street, There are times when it stops and then the flow of traffic begins again, it's really simple. Wait until traffic stops and then proceed, not like your merging onto a interstate or freeway. You do not need 100% of the power or even 50% of the power. Limp mode is good enough.

There is no need to jump out in front of traffic at that pace.

You know when you put on your seat belt ? or that annoying light and or chime? It would be the equivalent of the dash board lighting up saying valet mode and have an annoying chime go off in the car would be great as well. In addition headlamps would be set to Highlights, why ? what are valets doing parking your car in dark buildings for the most part.

I don't like seeing other peoples personal property abused. So its my reasoning behind it.

I'm not saying you're wrong. I would actually like a "valet mode". I'm just thinking that the ambulance chasers would have a field day with this one.

Also, what are Highlights? The only Highlights I know was the magazine that I would read in my doctors office when I was a kid. :D

Yes. "Limp mode" in a car with 600 hp will likely still chuck a Toyota Corolla every time.

The best valet mode is to avoid valet parking all together.

It was actually a highway. The only time we did not have merging problems was after 10:30pm when we brought cars back to main lot after spots opened. In addition the supervisor were up our a** that we move out quick to not block potential incoming traffic. i never used 100% power on the cars. Just enough so I would get in and go steadily with the flow. It is after all someone elses property.

It probably was the rev limiter. I tried to upshift via padles and had no chance of more speed.
