It looks like the secondary air injection pump. Secondary air pumps add filtered air to the exhaust system during engine warm-up. i.e. positive pressure, not negative pressure.

However, I can't seem to match your photo with the parts manual diagrams.

    https://www.eurospares.co.uk/parts/ferrari/360-modena/engine/secondary-air-system-40644

The small valve in your photo appears to be a single, vacuum-operated shutoff valve. The parts manual shows two shutoff valves.

Generally, engine intake manifold vacuum pressure is stored in a reservoir and used to operate various types of valves. No pump required (Turbo cars usually need a vacuum pump as the intake pressure can go above ambient pressure).

That's some homemade stuff there, weird that the hose is just cut off. There should be braided steel hoses going to the exhaust headers, they're the air injection hoses. Are those present?

Here's another view of the system

The air is pumped into the very beginning of the exhaust system. Items #10 are the normal shutoff valves. The single outlet of the pump goes to a "T" piece to allow both engine banks to receive air.

If the hoses on your car go nowhere, perhaps the system has been removed by a previous owner. Not all states/countries require anti-pollution equipment.

What @Qavion says... Clearly not factory. Coul this be a Euro car that got retrofitted to get a tittle in the US...?

Thanks for all the replies guys

This pump is SO loud, it’s much louder than the engine when started.

I just purchased the car, I found out the car was purchased in Germany than shipped to the states

We are assuming this was added to meet federal emissions standards during the import?

The red thingy with a knob on top looks like a timer-relay module. Probably used to time-out the blower fan. Definitely an Euro model retro to comply with US emission law.

Thank you for the great information,

Being that this is a euro spec car, would it have both the pre cats built into the factory header and post cats?

    Or just post cats?

    Thanks

    Steve

Looking at an old, multi-lingual Workshop Manual for the F360, I see no mention of air injection or precats, so possibly there are none on Euro cars. I'm wondering how this passed US import regulations. It's possible that that add-on system was working after the car was imported, but the plumbing removed later. It may still have Euro Motronic engine ECUs which don't throw codes for faulty Secondary Air systems.

Is the noise coming from the pump itself or the hose which is connected to nothing? Do both hoses on that Y junction go nowhere?
