I swore I read a thread on here some time ago about the vacuum pump on a TR leaking oil. Can someone point me to that or tell me what the deal is?

I didn't notice it at first when I put it all back together because it drips onto the pre-cat and burns off right away. Someone told me I was puffing blue smoke from the left exhaust. That terrified me until I realized it was actually the dripping oil on the pre-cat.

Brake vacuum assist pump leaking oil? If so.. you have a problem and do not drive the car.. If the pump is leaking engine oil that means the o ring is no longer making a seal. Oil will leak starve the cam shaft potentially creating a bigger problem.. Brake vaccum assist pump is at the driverside area of engine with a large vacuum hose going to it.. It bolts to the cam area of the engine.. Be careful if that is leaking engine oil my friend.

One more thing thing to check: the distributor cap (at least on my 86) can fill with oil! The rotor flange is rubber mounted in the intake camshaft end plug and the camshafts are full of oil. The rubber cracks with age and allows oil to fill the dist. cap. Very easy to fix and some shops will want to pull the engine, which is not needed. Use a pickle fork and a 1/8" thick piece of alumimium to protect the valve cover. Drive out the pin which is about a 1/8" diameter (head is mushroomed), lever out the end plug which is indexed and re-assemble everything. Probably want to support the end of the cashaft with a 3# hammer as you drive out the pin. Use the search function for more info. I called three dealerships to find this easy solution. FWIW

I think maybe I need to put it in the air again and take a closer look from underneath. It may be the end of the valve cover gasket.
