I'm looking into buying a Quattro Porte in the next few months. I would like to know, have Maserati got any near term plans to drop in a V12 into the QP lineup. If so, when roughly do they plan to do so.

If not, does anyone know of any QP with the burgundy exterior and tan interior for sale & the going rate for an 05-06 MY

    Thanks

    Kurt

Word on the street last I checked is that after the Ferrari/Masi split, the plans for a V12 were shelved. That said, they are supposedly coming out with a 7spd auto VERY soon. That with a 400hp engine should make the car very lively, though I heard in the auto the engine may be detuned.

Now fitting an automatic that would require detuning a 400 hp engine would be almost as dumb as not having an automatic in the car at it's introduction.

I doubt this very much. I'm certain they have plans for more HP in this car in the future. Every sport and luxury maker does these days.

If not the F V12 perhaps a supercharged or turbocharged V8?

With the new M5 having 500+hp, the new QP will have to have more hp to survive, slushbox or not...

Maybe they'll have more budget for that than BMW what with less frequent tow ins. ;)

as mentioned by others the V12 plan was scraped, despite pictures of elongated prototypes running around. you got to ask yourself, how much premium will maserati ask for on a V12 QP over a V8? the german's V12 are about 1.5x the price on their V8's.. so a V12 QP will be oh, $150k. a V12 will definitely give the QP a different character.

not sure why you want a 7AT, detuned engine or not.
if anything, go with a Sport GT.

there should be plenty of burgandy/tan around. remember the neiman marcus edition? havent seen them on the market though.

parkerf has to throw in a M5 comment every now and then in a maserati thread.

I've been told last year from PR-head of Maserati that they won't add the V12 to the QP because.... it's to big for its engine cockpit!

I've been in Modena last week to test the new QP SPORT GT. Great! But the first thing I'd do If I purchased this car would be to "open" the exhaust system. It's actually too silent!!!!!!!!

Another indication for a stupid decision and ignorance by Ferrari who was responsible for the technical package of the car! Normally a car manufacturer tries to make more versions on a platform: Coupe, Spider etc.! Even Ferrari based their 575 on 2 versions: coupe and "Superamerica".

So, another failure of Ferrari under their motto: "Don`t disturb my circles"!
    A Quattroporte V with a V12-engine = 30% more sales!
    But they will never understand....!

    Ciao!

Well it is true that they can't even get the current engine properly placed in the car so that the front passenger has legroom. Have you sat in that seat?
How stupid was that. Why can they have plenty of room for the driver and way too little for the passenger. Reminds one of the dumb lack of passenger legroom found in a Bora.

When are they going to stretch this thing a bit? That would allow them to make room for a 12 or maybe they should put the Audi W12 in there? :)

Undoubtedly it will get stretched in Los Angeles way before it does in Modena. With the added bonus of a Jacuzzi in the trunk!
    Probably already been done.

I'm very surprised LDM didn't see the possibilities a longer car would allow, without any penalty in performance. This isn't a sporta car after all, no matter how sporty it is.

A shame, really.....A V-12 in a Maserati would be superb for the brand.

Now we'll all have to wait for the Aston Rapide, at a $100K premium over the QP. Oh well. Life is full of difficult decisions. LOL

Almost every product from them in the last 30 years has less leg room in the pass side. The foot well is where a good deal of the electrical equipment is on every model since the 308GT4. The more equipment the more space needed. And the QP has a ton of it.

If anyone is looking for a Nieman Marcus edition they should contact Auto Concierge here. I think one of his clients is interested in getting rid of his.

first time i ever see on a forum anyone complaining about front passenger legroom.

the engine is perfectly placed for a front-mid engine layout ;)
at 5m do you really want to stretch it further?

That's because it is primarily a luxury vehicle for comfort, speed and then performance. It's not a pure sports car. If my wife's driving I'd have to sit in rear to be comfortable on a long drive. Sorry but that's a no go for a product that's this well thought out, leg room excepted. Reminds me of the Italian ape arm driving position which on an exotic sports car is considered a quirk but in this market segment this is unforgivable.

I have a Bora with a battery compartment where ones feet should be. Just imagine sitting in your typical high end comfortable sedan on the passenger side. Now imagine putting a battery in front of your legs. This is what Maserati seems to have done with the the QPV. Whatever is in there.

Yes I'm aware of the rearward placement of the engine, they did this on other models as well like the Khamsin. But it had legroom for days!

I don't think this is nitpicking when you're talking about a high end luxury sedan. I'm also not a giant at 6' 1/2".

    If I could snap my fingers right now and "poof"! the perfect automobile appears in front of me it would go something like this...starting with the QP, of course;

6" stretch (increased rear passenger room)
    V12 of at least 450bhp
    6spd automatic
AWD but with a bias towards the rear

Give me those and I'll gladly try to scrape up the money needed for my wishes to come true:)

I asume that a stretch would ruin the very beautiful lines of the QV.

What? Are you going to want a flatbed on the back so you can haul your leaves to the dump (or old italian car parts). Let's get real.

Their inability to fit a V12 due to lack of room makes some sense to me. If they had originally planned for it, the design might not have been as successful.
Anyways I've also read rumors that it will gain a 4.7L version of the current engine. Anyone else hear the same thing - hopefully not from the same person (I think I read it in an italiaspeed forum).
