I am assuming the engine is the same as the 812 but detuned, is this correct? I drove a Lusso the other day and was underwhelmed. Its been a while but "I think" my FF felt more responsive. Maybe I need to drive it again.

    6.3 L V12 modified to match Lusso gear box, based on F12 not 812 (6.5L V12) engine.

It just didnt feel responsive to me. Maybe an exhaust would system would help. The F12 has so much more torque and response, I was really surprised at the difference.

V8 has the low-end torque and oomph. It seems the V12 was geared towards a cruising ratio. Driving it in auto It's like a Lincoln. Driving it in manual and keeping the revs high is bliss.

This is not a surprise since the Lusso has a wet sump engine vs the dry sump engine in F12 and 812.
In addition, The FF does indeed have a more aggressive setup vs the Lusso. Many here have reported the difference in the characteristic you noted between the Lusso and the FF. With the Lusso, Ferrari moved the V12 4-seater deeper into the luxury side of things. In addition, imho the setup was done on purpose to differentiate further between the V12 (more luxury, more long legged) and V8 (more sporty) Lussos. Apparently, the V12 Lusso takes more time to get used to it but it's more sublime and a better daily. Also it is quite exciting in the higher rev ranges and catches up with the FF in oomph.
Again this is all based on what has been reported here on Fchat over the course of the past 2-3 years.

I'm pretty sure the Lusso has a dry sump though... Can you please confirm the wet sump?
Also, in the event it had a wet sump, how would that affect the engine responsiveness? To me it is more a question of tune and throttle response, and how Ferrari wants the car to feel.

This would seem to make sense and wondering if a tune and exhaust would liven it up.

Apologies, you are indeed correct. Both FF and GTC4Lusso have dry sump V12 engines. It is the V8 engine which is wet sump in the GT cars and dry sump in the sports cars.

I was really hoping it would feel more sporty than Luxurious.

Lusso (and FF) are heavy cars, and do feel their weight. But if you drive in Sports mode and on Manual, revving out that glorious engine, there is no lack of responsiveness.

Maybe try the V8 Turbo, many here have reported it to feel lighter and sportier than the V12.

I did just that, I always drive in track or race mode. The car accelerates but there isn't an immediate response or hit. It is very smooth actually.

Plenty of sportiness with a cat back exhaust. I was underwhelmed as well. The car is an animal now.

    the lusso is also heavy.

It is slow and heavy (dated?) compared to an 812SF (F12?).
Far better car than the FF, but much more civilized than the FF. So not as fun as a week end car. Only buy if you plan on DD

Yep it’s much better. It comes alive if you drive it up in the rev band

Let's get one thing straight. The Lusso is dry sumped. It is a very responsive engine.

Now you need to remember that the Lusso "learns" from hkw it has been driven. If the car was driven softly prior to you getting in it, gear changes and throttle response is based on that.

Remove the battery quick release for 10 minutes, and go flog it. It is faster than the FF and the engine is equally if not more responsive.

The Lusso itself did get a softer chassis, but frankly as the GT it is, the FF was too firm. Some might find this a bad thing, but it is a heavy car and a GT, so I see no point in trying to make it anything else.

They share gear ratios, so no difference there.

Get the car to firget what it previously learned and try again
