i have been commissioned by a friend to find him a fun, sporty, used conv. for under 15k, even under 10k dollars if possible...it would be a fun weekend car only, not for primary transportation....any ideas guy and gals???? i came up a toyota mr2 spider, perhaps a high mileage honda s2000,a mid nineties 3 series convertible, then i ran out of ideas....he likes good handling cars, so big cruiser boats are out....any thoughts or ideas???? i know, its hard going down scale after talking about 430s,lambos, new porsches and aston martins etc etc.......just think small!!!! or should i say cheap!!!!!!

hmm fun convertible. Well the S2000 with a few miles is a good option I would think. Mr2, might be a streach dont really know though. what are Porsche Boxsters going for? They might not be 10k Im not really sure. Other than that, cant really think of a convertible for 10k

A quick search of MSN Autos shows the following Kelley Blue Book values:

    2002: 13,800-16,300
    2001: 12,150-14,500
    2000: 10,800-13,050
    1999: 9,575-13,550

The low end is for the base model, the high end is for the SE model.

    From the MSN Autos website:

    Kelley Blue Book Suggested
    Retail Price Range
The ranges shown on the Kelley Blue Book Suggested Retail Values page represent a range of vehicles from the least-expensive "base" vehicles (with no optional equipment) to the most-expensive "fully loaded" vehicles — vehicles featuring top-of-the-line engine and transmission packages, as well as every available option.

If the man likes to go around corners reaaaallllllly fast, the MR2 Spyder is the way to go. We're talking handling that approaches Lotus Elise levels.

Agreed, I had one. You really can steer with the throttle in the corners.

High mileage e36 M3 convert? Starting to see these fall down into the low-mid teens and still one of my fav cars. How about a 944 S2 Cab or 968 Cab? Alfa Spyder? Miata is a good choice as many have said.

My first thought was the MR2 sypder as well....Good car for the money...I'm suprised no one mentioned this one....it was my second thought....

What about an Alfa Romeo Spyder Veloce? talk about a fun sporty convertible...and italian too...

3rd thought was an early 90's BMW 3 series cab....

c5 are great, but i think they are still well above 20k , even with high miles.......the c4 are junky to me...rattle boxes with cheap interiors and uninspired exterior design....the c5 was a hugh improvement, much more than the c5 to c6 change...
