I've had mine in for a ~year. Running similar for fogs too.. love them and no issues. I do keep a spare set on hand as I hate driving with a pediddle.... Sent from my SM-G965U using Tapatalk
I'm looking for a high quality, durable, LED bulb for the low beams. Has anyone tried these? Any thoughts as to if they're worth the premium? https://www.ebay.com/itm/CREE-XHP70-9006-60W-8000-Lm-6000K-LED-HEADLIGHT-BULB/113733958294
Would love to hear specifically what people are using for LED bulbs in a standard-ish (i.e. non-blue) color.
Do not skimp put on LED bulbs. A lot of the ones listed overrated lumens, do not produce a proper beam pattern, and can likely cause damage due to poor heat dissipation. I would check out xenondepot. They have an Led headlight bulb that uses a passive flexible heatsink, which means it fits great in tight spaces. I do not have any experience with the bulb in an f355, but have used their bulbs in multiple other vehicles. The Retrofit Source has a new LED bulb out that looks pretty interesting - it somehow uses a fan to dissipate heat outwards toward the headlight lens. I would go with a reputable company/product, they are all relatively inexpensive.
I guess I'm the only one that thinks it looks odd to install LEDs or Xenon in an older "classic" Ferrari. I'm old I guess. What I did on the 355 I had was install HIR bulbs. They are a specialized halogen bulb that is higher output, without higher current draw. I noticed a significant improvement when installed in my 355 headlights. More info here HIR Headlights 9011 9012 bulbs (finemotoring.com) I bought mine from there, but they no longer sell them, but link to a competitor that does.
To make a 9012 HIR bulb fit in a 9006 headlight housing you have to make a small modification to the tab on the bulb. Here are instructions: How to Modify HIR bulb bases (candlepower.com) Here is a listing to the two options on bulbs: NEW !!! VOSLA HIR2 (9012) +50% "Super Bright Light" (candlepower.com) This is one of those which may have a bluish tint Slyvania HIR2 (9012) Silverstar - Whiter Light (candlepower.com)
Went from stock bulbs to LED's, seriously not that great and like F355spider stated does not look great on these cars. I switched over to HIR bulbs too, happy with the results!
Standard European lighting would be the way to go in my opinion. Vs putting overly bright bulbs in the crap North American housings.
You need to try it first. I was surprised how well the HIR bulbs work. The headlights in the 355 are actually quite good, what they really need is more lumens. HIR are higher output (lumens) without higher wattage or current draw. And surprisingly, for the first time, I could actually see the sharp cutoff vertically the stock headlights have and could get several yards further distance. Never had an issue with opposing cars having glare or flashing high beams at me.
Morimoto now has a kit for upgraded fog lights and led headlights as well as tail lights. Watch the video until the end to see.
This thread demonstrates how LED headlight technology continues to evolve My OPT7 high and low beam LEDs are doing just fine nearly eight years after installation.
And my SNGL 3000K H1 LED (fanless) bulbs in my fog/flasher/running lights are doing well after six years of use... Image Unavailable, Please Login
