I may have an opportunity to upgrade my F8 Tributo to a 296 GTB. The last non electrified V8 Mid Engine Ferrari or by all measures a faster better car in the 296? I know the salesperson would suggest I get both...but not sure I can swing that. If you had a gun to your head, would you upgrade? (That's my F8 at Ridge Motorsports Park)

I just bought 296 GTB and love the car, would any day pick up 296 than F8. You need to drive 296 then you understand what Ferrari made. I just love my 296

I upgraded from a F8 to a 296. The 296 is the far superior performing car.

Not in a million years, its that simple. The F8 is the best looking Ferrari since the great 80s, and of course the Enzo. I dont know how anyone with these deep pockets would buy the 296 over all the other much better looking / sounding Ferraris, such as the V12 Enzo. Todays Ferrari owners are a lot different then the ones of the past. That 296 is a piece of crap looking car, good grief. Your never going to use all that power, lest you wrap it around a telephone pole. I dont give a **** what anyone says. I would spend my money on an F40 or F50, are you ****ing kidding me ? If I had the money, I would pull up next to one, and laugh in the drivers face, its that simple, and when you get in the canyons, youll get roasted more than a BBQ chicken on the grill. Not pointing at you, lots of chumps crashing super cars, there was just a post about a bunch of **** ups in sardinia, Jesus Christ, what the **** is the world coming to. Oh yeh , im going to buy a Ferrari with an electric motor in it and a V6 . . F1 needs to go back to the V10s, jeez. Ferrari needs to can those jerk offs at the top, and hire Luca back, its really that simple , or go the **** out of business. " well its a more superior car " get the **** out of here ! Im going to buy a 296, when there is an 812 Superfast parked next to it at the dealer. ( or an F12 TDF ) Get off the drugs...

  5. If you drive the 296, the answer will be obvious.

I'm swapping my Pista for the 296.

Im speaking rhetorically ,( I think thats the right word ) . https://video.search.yahoo.com/yhs/search?fr=yhs-trp-001&ei=UTF-8&hsimp=yhs-001&hspart=trp&p=moto+technique+308&type=Y155_F163_200989_090322#id=2&vid=8e2624b0df7b8c44e0d5e2636c6667c1&action=click

I would buy this instead, its that simple. And while driving down main street in lets say Huntington Beach, all the folks would be breaking their necks while looking at me while I drive by, and not even notice or know what the **** the 296 is, its that simple.

Absolutely not! Keep the F8; beautiful car and perhaps the best engine / suspension package in a modern sports car I have experienced; 296 has my attention as well, however just can’t get over its awkward looks from some angles. That and the “high tech” … I will take Porsche high tech over Ferrari high tech if you know what I mean haha. Let them sort out these hybrid cars first, suspect a lot of growing pains in the future.

You sure it would be an upgrade? Not a downgrade?

I’m of this opinion also. Not an upgrade; it’s a downgrade for me.

You’ll hear a bunch of noise from people who haven’t owned both cars, as well as the so called “purists” (they hate new technology, and they especially despise the Purosangue! Haha).

Anyway, just ignore them. I’ve owned both cars (F8, 296, and currently a SF90), so my opinion is based on real experience. Not conjecture. The 296 is FAR better than the F8. It even sounds much better, even with the V-6. The only reason I sold my 296 GTB was because I have a 296 GTS coming next year.

Even when I attended Corso Pilota in Italy, the Ferrari driving instructors said the 296 is another level beyond the F8 and that they prefer it over any other Ferrari on the track.

Trust me on this. You’ll thank me later!

To buy one Ferrari over another because its better on the track is just plain stupid, its that simple. I will say one thing, I dont care if the instructors in Italy are fast in it, your not going to be, your not that good, believe me. At this high level of performance most folks are not even going to have the ability to take the car to that level and say one is better than the other. This is also true on the street. Ferraris are all about the motor, the sound, the handling and the look, ALL WRAPPED UP IN ONE . To drive a real old testament example, or even a new modern V8 / V12 is like being in another world. Ill take an F8 out on any track, and roast any of you 296 owners and send you home crying in your soup, on the track or on the street, its that simple. I will say it again, I dont give a **** what those ginzos say back in Italy, who cares . It has nothing to do with being a PURIST, it has everything to do with what Ferrari has stood for all these years . You have enough money to buy an F40 / F50 / 512 BBI, and the list keeps going, and you buy an SF90 , or a 296 ? Thats just a waste of money . Ill take an Enzo and then see whos straining their necks watching us drive by, believe me, it wont be the 296 / SF .

Oh, I agree that getting a Ferrari over another simply because it’s better on track would be stupid. But the thing is, the 296 is also way better on the street than a F8 is. It’s better than the F8 is ‘everywhere’. Owners of 296 know how good they are.

As far as you choosing an Enzo because it gets you more strained necks from onlookers is really all you needed to say. That’s exactly how poser’s roll.

    Thanks for your input!

Any time anywhere, track, street, on in a shifter kart, you will end up going home and crying in your soup, its that simple. The onlookers quote was a testament of how good a REAL FERRARI LOOKS, good grief charlie brown, oh I forget, Im also way better looking !! lol

I guess it really depends on what you buy the car for. I track my F8 (12 track days this year) and take it on the occasional country road drive. I don't really care to impress strangers with my car.

I think both are cool in their own way. To me, the F8 looks a lot better and doesn't have the haptic control mess of the 296. With that said, the 296 seems to drive fantastically, sounds great without any exhaust modifications, and looks elegant in its own right. If they could make it more analog inside (come on 296 VS), that would be truly something. I would like to get both, but if I could only have one, I would go F8. Not that I would lose any sleep over "having" the 296 instead.

No reason to bash one or the other. As a Ferrari fan, I am happy the brand has the option for both.

Looks is always going to be subjective. I do LOVE the way my F8 looks. But I also love the curves on the 296. I did a muffler delete on my F8 to open up the sound a but, but yeah, the 296 sounds AMAZING, which was the biggest surprise to me. How does a V6 sound so good?

On top of that, it's another 100+ hp for track days. That sounds insanely fun! I would love to have both.

As far as other models...I can't afford an Enzo and I prefer my cars under warranty and within the 7 years of free maintenance for new Ferraris...repairs and maintenance are ridiculously expensive on these cars.

these cars are so fast anyway that mostly what dictates being fast on the street is bravery, especially certain roads where you're inviting death essentially by going anywhere near the limit

The touch controls, especially on the steering wheel are the only real issue I have with the car. I wish the start button and climate controls weren't touch. I can live with the others.

it's NOT better AT ALL in looks, style and class on the outside or inside. Any performance level beyond a 458 is completely irrelevant to me... unusable-- so it boils down to style for me.

It's performance that's usable on the track. But if you never track the car...I agree it's performance that you'll never use
