For auction on the 3rd of Dec., look's good from the photos, if it go's for the estimate it would be a bit of a bargain if it's as good as it looks! link and main info below.

‘16647’ which was imported from Italy in 1973. A right-hand drive model, ‘16647’ was converted by recognised specialists with guidance from UK Ferrari importer Maranello Concessionaires with regard to structural reinforcement. The car was purchased by the current owner in 1995. Professionally stored and fastidiously maintained, ‘UYH 998M’ comes with a substantial history file containing all invoices dating from 1987 to the present day (copies of these will be available for inspection, the originals to be forwarded to the purchaser after sale). Finished in red with tan leather interior, this example of what is still one of the fastest, and rarest, open two-seaters in existence is offered fresh from servicing by Ferrari specialists DK Engineering and comes with jack, tool roll, current road fund licence, MoT to April 2008 and Swansea V5.

The words Daytona and bargain rarely appear in the same sentence. The estimate either indicates that Daytona prices are coming off the boil, or that there is something iffy about the car. The details are very vague about who actually did the conversion which I think should set alarm bells ringing.

Can't see from the photos, but it's missing one obvious structural reinforcement, the large section vertical beams through the center of the front inner fenders.

I Have been Speaking to Mike Osgood, who worked at Ferrari UK Bodyshop for 30 years and has just restored Tim's Daytona [Daytona Rebuild thread] about the pic Bill kindly posted on this thread. Mike has my Daytona Autokraft conversion at the moment and he is going to do all the correct strengening modifications [ in his words doing it properly] as per the original Spyders and we are trying to glean any information on the necessary work. Any way i explained this thread to Mike and asked him to have a look at it and he has asked me to post his reply. I have to agree with Mike on the cracking of the sill under the front of the door hinges as my car had this, and also the car on this thread seems to have it if you zoom in on the side view of the car. This is one reason that i want my car doing properly and Mike is the best person of the job for sure. Here is Mikes reply and if any one has any more pic's of the structural Spyder parts / chassis if they could e-mail me with them that would be Great.

    Hi Grant,

I have just looked up the article you told me about on the Ferrari chat and it is just not true that anyone would have encouraged or given advice on converting a Daytona GTB to a spider that worked for Maranello Concessionaires, and considering I assisted in setting up the body shop along with Ivan Bishop (Technical Director) and was in charge of the body repairs I would have known all about it. Please put this on the chat page Grant so that others can be made aware of the truth.

While we are about it Scaglietti did not do any conversions to these cars either they just built the correct cars in the first place under instructions from the factory. I have, during my working days for M.C., visited the Scaglietti factory and have spoken with the man and his son, the chassis sections were not built there, they arrived complete ready for the body work to be fitted.

Also I can assure you that Ferrari do not approve of their cars being converted they feel very strongly about it and always have done.

One last thing I will say on this subject is that every Daytona that I have seen that has been converted has had big vertical cracks through the sills below the A post/ door aperture, a good way to spot one a mile off unless it has had some serious structural work done to the bulkhead.

    Yours sincerely Mike Osgood.

I would guess somewhere between 5 and 10% buyers premium + tax so say £105 to £110K. Be interesting to see if it pops up in the classified in the next month or so.

Prehaps this also asks the question of whether a Spyder conversion is now worth less than a Berlinetta or if prices on Daytona's are softening?

That looks to be a very "soft" price for any Euro tax paid Daytona, and I cannot imagine converted coupes are discounted that much. It was a weak auction with a fair % of no sales. The 500 Superfast at £230,000 looks a "bargain" to me, likewise a Bugatti EB110 at £140,000. Or maybe some dealers just got some good stock at the right price ?
