Hi Guys, There is a thread in one of the other areas about the best twisty roads, of course California, Rocky Mountains, Italy, etc., are all mentioned. So I wanted to hear from everybody where they think there are some good ones. I'll start: Bluff Rd. from Lemont to Romeoville.
A great cruise: Hop on Sheridan Rd off of LSD and just go north. Roads are pretty sick at times. I've been in a few cruises with 20-30 cars, very entertaining.
Concur on driving up sheridan road, as far as you can. Gorgeous area, beautiful homes. Makes you realize that there are people making 100x-1000x more a year than you make. Sigh... Driving through Kennilworth is always cool. Evanston is becomming very nice... Of course, you can't really go quickly... When you hit Wisconsin, turn around, you are on the wrong side of the tracks . 95th street on the southside through the forest preserves is nice... LSD at night is awesome, of course... And if you want to speed, just head into Wisconsin and pick the country road of your choice, after midnight...watch for deer.
I love Bluff Rd. That's real close to me and it's almost always part of my drives. I also like taking Cass Ave. S through Argonne Labs and up to Rt. 83, then S to the light where Rt. 83 takes a 90 degree left, and instead I turn right and take the road following the canal down to Lemont and Lemont Rd. From there, you can then also take Bluff Rd. Really pretty in the fall. Also one of my faves is the road you take off of 55 (Rt. 21 maybe?) thorugh Plainfield and then up to around Yorkville. Nice winding country roads with lots of farms and cows and such. Also, I've never seen a radar cop there!
Commercial plug: On Saturday, August 6th FOC will have its 3rd annual LSD drive pretty much along those roads and on LSD through the city. This time including renovated Lower Wacker Drive for optimum tubi performance... Also we will have three trophies for the "Maintenance Award". How do you win? Bring your maintenance records from the past year (going back to August 6 2004). Whoever racks up the highest bill for his Ferrari, wins. Maybe a trophy you don't want to win... Back to your regularly scheduled program.
LOL! Hmmmmmmm.....wonder who that could be......?..... THE BEST Twisty Roads? Close by? The I&M Canal Roads that we took from Joliet to Starved Rock. (Chuck's-Chasking on FChat-Drive.) Unpopulated,Country,Scenic,2 lane River Roads. With mostly High,"Posted" Speed Limits,(to start with, anyway) There are "Twisties" ALL Along that whole Road. Then, stop at 'Starved Rock' for Lunch. Then,if you are in a hurry to get back, just jump on I-80 back to I-55. Not in a Hurry, then take the same roads back. They also traverse through some really neat, very old River Towns, with 'Mom and Pop' Taverns that serve Food.
Here are some links to threads about the route Frank was talking about. This one has maps of the route... http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=31738 ...and this one has pictures taken along the way, which are typical of the roads involved: http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=58188 Dave from Peoria (Appliance328) took us on some even better roads on the way down to Peoria, but I don't remember exactly where they were. They're not exactly "twisty roads in Illinois," but in October the Alfa club will be having its fall tour into the wilds of southwestern Wisconsin, which has some of the best twisty driving roads on the planet. F-chatters will again be invited. I'll post details as the time approaches.
