My Ferrari is a 1980 308 GTSI with a factory muffler. I would LOVE to buy a TUBI for it, but money tight now to buy a new one.
Is it possible to find a good-condition used TUBI? I have been looking around for a while now without much luck.....any suggestions on where to find one?

Any other suggestions for a cheaper make with the TUBI sound....I know, if you want a TUBI, buy a TUBI, but I am wondering if there is a good alternative.

    Thanks!!

Somehow, I don't think so. Don't feel bad, I'm about to bite the bullet and get a new one for my 308. But it will be worth it, especially on that 1st drive after the installation.

My thoughts too, Jay. If I can't find a good used one, I might save up a bit. What price quote did you get?
BTW, did you ever hear a TUBI on a 2 valve 308?? What did you think of it?

X-Ost also a option. What I put on my 328. Daniel at Ricambi be glad to take your credit card info & get one to you... He is a site sponsor. If you spend over $$$$$$ with Daniel you may get a free hat too!

Serious tho, do not think Tubi the only choice.... I had a Tubi on my 348 wen with X-Ost on the 328.. I like it.

I did find a used Tubi for my 328. Got it for half price. The quality of the stainless steel is so good that it was very easy to make it look brand new. Remember - this is a used muffler. They do pop up from time to time, so don't give up. -Steve

Why not just get a brand new custom exhaust for a fraction of the cost? Mine sounds fantastic and I don't regret it. Sure it's not polished but I don't really care. I think it sounds better than any tubi I've heard. Just my devalued Canadian .02

When I got the 308, there were a lot of things the car needed and many additional things I wanted to do as well. I too balked at $2500 for a muffler and went with a high quality, professionally built exhaust for about $650. The muffler is a Flowmaster, dual inlet and dual outlet. The two dual tips have built in resonators and there is a stainless heat shield above the muffler. The picture is before i removed and painted it.

Try a search for custom exhaust, flowmaster or magnaflow. A lot of guys have gone the custom route and been happy with them.

For sure, the custom units do not have the shine or cachet of a Tubi, BUT what else could you do with an extra Two Thousand dollars???

Probably the best way to decide is to listen to 308s with different exhaust systems.

I was lucky enough to get a new Tubi for the 308 from a guy who had one but no longer had the car he wanted to fit it on.
Less than $800. Obviously super happy :)

I have a 78 308 with a new Tubi. I love the sound but remember you just can't put the Tubi on and drive away I don't think. In my case the Carbs need to be tuned to the Tubi as will as some timing. To tune the Carbs to the Tubi takes some knowledge on tuning Carbs. I would not get anything else. If you can pull it off go for the real thing.

These DIY exhausts may be 'inexpensive', the numbers I see tossed-around feel disingenuous - they are not practical options unless one is quite skilled at pipe bending, welding, custom pipe cutting, etc. and can undertake such a thing in their own garage. Any professional that can perform this work with any degree of quality is going to charge $$$/hour for such a workbench science project. Its a tight-fit under the Ferrari (I spent much of this Spring re-assembling everything from the headers 'out'), it ain't like plumbing a Camaro or Mustang where there's plenty of 'fudge-factor' for Billy-Bob down at Meineke to work with.

I got a price of $3475 from Carobu Engineering. I listened to a lot of the videos on Youtube but it's still hard to tell. I found replacement, original, but more free flowing style cats from a local racing muffler shop. I'm kicking around the idea of having a custom one made by them. They make exhausts for race cars, show cars and hotrods so I'm sure they can make a stainless steel one for my car that works just as well and for about $2500 less. I'll keep you posted.

Chris, what year is your car and does yours have cats? Mine is a 78 with the 2 cat setup. This shop uses Flowmasters also in addition to others. Out of curiosity, how do you like the sound of the Flowmasters on a 308 and is it super loud or obnoxious?

I have a Larini exhaust on my 77 308. Cheaper than a tubi and it sounds great.

They are all creeping up in price but check THIS WEEK while the dollar is UP!!! :)

My ANSAs are always less, but not stainless steel. They burn out to a mellower tone, IMO.....still plenty loud, once 'aged".

Dr. Barry used "Mille Miglia" out of Australia and wasvery happy but it was also in the $3K neighborhood, all said and done.....

What he said. I had a Tubi on my ex 308 QV and ex 328 Euro. Tee 308 sounded ok (BTW I only paid 1,950 but that was back in 02), the 328 sounded great. I have a x-ost on my Testarossa and love it.

Dont go for the Mille Miglia as they are crap.Poorly made and I have had 2 people tell me that there inner baffles came loose. With the Aus dollar so low it would probably be around $1500 mark though

X2.The X-Ost was the way that I went.Nice welds and nice sound. At idle it doesn't sound very loud but once the revs start climbing you tend to look for tunnels to drive through
