I just thought that as my wife and I get back into the swing of things, and start going through the hundreds of pictures we took, that I'd create a thread to post up some pictures over the coming days. If anyone is interested, I'll also be happy to say more about Vietnam.

This was my first real "world travelling" experience and it was a doozy! So much flight time... so many places.

We flew from NYC -(14hrs)-> Seoul -(5hrs)-> Ho Chi Minh City. Then toured down to the Mekong Delta, back to HCMC, flew up to Da Nang (in central Vietnam), Toured around that area, went back to HCMC, then took a one day tour up to the Cu Chi tunnels, then back to HCMC.

    It was exhausting, but excellent.

Picture 1: Image of where the plane was @ the midway pt between JFK and Incheon
Picture 2: The first view of the city I saw during the day (from our hotel window)
Picture 3: Street view of the same
Picture 4: Traditional Vietnamese coffee was immediately called for
Picture 5: So easy to be a millionaire in Vietnam (this is approximately 45 US dollars)
Picture 6: First interesting building I saw on the first cab ride in to downtown HCMC.

This reads like a Vietnam war vets journey.

What was the occasion for going? Looks like a great time.

Hehe, I only have so many collared shirts... and since we were gone for over 2 weeks, I had to break into the gator gear to make sure I had enough clothing to make it all the way through ;)

There were multiple reasons for the trip.

    1) Wedding gift from my inlaws (wife and inlaws are vietnamese)
    2) The grandmothers had been asking for us to come visit for some time
    3) So that we could attend the 5 yr anniversary ceremony of my wife's grandfather's passing

    ...

Prior to our trip to the Mekong, we did visit the Vietnam War Remnants Museum. However, due to the nature of the museum, it did not feel appropriate to take pictures inside. Needless to say, it contains quite a few very powerful exhibits.

    A few more.

Pic 1: A picture of what we believe is a private residence that we could see from our hotel in the southern city of Can Tho.
Pic 2: By law, all boats are required to have "eyes" painted on the front. The thought being that any alligators that see the "eyes" will mistake the boat for an animal that is much larger than themselves and avoid the boat.
Pic 3: Pictures of a floating produce market we visited near Can Tho, Vietnam.
Pic 4: Vendors would hang an example of the product(s) they were selling from a vertical pole so that it would be easy to identify the boats carrying any items you were interested in purchasing.
Pic 5: A couple of smaller, human powered boats. the people using these would stand on the back of the boat, cross the oar handles in front of them, and row both simultaneously... was an extremly slow process.
Pic 6: Visiting a rice paper manufacturer and seeing how the paper is made.

I have heard that Vietnam is one of the best places to live bang-for-the-buck.

Fantastic photos. I spent much of Nov 2014 in Vietnam, and I loved it. I never tire of visiting SE Asia.

I could see that. We regularly had fantastic meals for two that ended up costing ~$5-10. The higher end resulted in getting far more food than we could eat.

    No problem!

Next time we head over there, I hope we are able to go for a longer period of time and go to some of the other countries in the area.

So I finally finished getting a (mostly) complete map of everywhere my wife and I visited on the trip. It was amazingly jam-packed due to our using tour companies to take three different tours (1 2 day, 1 4 day, and 1 single day trip).

Our next trip, whenever that is, will be to Ha Noi, probably Ha Long Bay, and then potentially anywhere else in the area. I would like to visit Cambodia and Thailand for sure.
