yep ex AFL club board member /ceo.
Gone are the days when Motorsport Ceo's were motorsport people.

Over the years I had many VIC friends who were involved in historic motorsport ....not one is involved any more to the stage that non even go to events ,so many burnt by CAMS (sic)

Without boring all, I had 25 years of enjoyment in historics ,glad I did it ? On the odd time I think yep I'll buy another Brabham or a F2 European spec car and let a younger guy(Millard) drive it ....but no interest in locking horns with CAMS people or being involved with owners who cheat .

To the last few post's above.

That's probably why there have been a couple or more new motorsport bodies pop up in the not so long ago past.

Yes, the rot begins when you commence having paid administrators. Their first priority is keeping their job, then expanding their authority and status. All bureaucracies evolve this way, it's a rule of human nature.

Unfortunately the FIA (French, so one of the most arcane bureaucracies) will always control all international categories and will only ever sanction Motorsport Australia events. AASA is fine for club days and some rallies, but its racing categories are limited to MX5's and the like.

I love GG and the GAD, but racing is very special and worth fighting for, it just needs sensible people to volunteer, rather than allowing the administrative cockroaches to infest it. I put my hand up as a category manager for this reason and I at least get a chance to argue against the endless new rules they try to impose.

    cheating eventually becomes self defeating.

e.g. F5000 can no longer assemble a full grid, in part because ordinary enthusiasts can't compete against people running $200K engines with 700hp.

F5000 that was bought on by allowing the larger geared stretched DG300s ,in the period the pub talkers mention 530bhp engines ,never happened even the Franz Weis Chevs (best in the period )of the period on injection delivered around 485 to 490bhp, they could have got more, but the period DG300 gears would break .

The period DG300s should have remained thus the 700bhp issue would never had come around .

200k WTF is in 'em it can't be man hours based on 10hours per cylinder system ?

It's all in the heads, original 5 litre Chev has the valves all in a line and directly in line with the bore. The cheat heads are like a big block, with the valves offset to create an included angle of about 17 degrees.

Silly thing is it would only take a scrutineer 5 minutes to find it, but they don't look, even when the historic lap record is held by an F5000, faster than a 1985 Ferrari F1 car

Race meeting at SMSP this weekend, so last night I'm winching the car into the trailer when one of the timber planks jumped up and trapped the bar that the front wings attach too. In the instant that it took me to left my finger off the winch button, the bar was bent. Out went the car again and I spent 3 hours trying to straighten it, to no avail. Chrome moly tube won't unbend, no matter how much heat and force you use. I was very p*ssed off

So this morning, I did a run to the racing steel guy to buy a new length of tube, then to the machine shop to cut it precisely and tig weld the end caps on. All good now and ready for practice tomorrow :)

Timber planks? Surely you have hand milled ramps made from neutron quenched rhodium tetrafluoride alloy billets?

Erm, I have to use planks on top of my aluminium ramps, because I may just be running the ride height a teensy bit lower than I'm allowed :)
