LOL...!!! With my sunglasses, dark clothing and ever-present leather gloves, i already give too many people the 'serial killer' impression - a spacious, windowless van wouldn't help any... :)

No, I meant it would be funny to get a black van and draw the lines of an Enzo on it.

If you put him in the van the O.G. posted, I can hear the 70s porn music blaring on the 8 track...

Almost certainly a Mark Gerish replica. He built one for Marchetti, and possibly at least one other.

What helps you make that assessment? Are there specific items that you connect with Gerish or is just a "sense" of the overall car from your past exposure?

There were a lot of SWBs around Marchetti's place in the late 1970s and into the 1980s. Also quite a few other competition cars. I do remember replicas also later on. I can't tell you anymore about this particular car one way or another.

    Dear Older Guy,

Well, I know that Ed Niles is older than I am, and Gerald Roush is just a tick older, but the nom de net "Pretty Old Guy but Not Quite The Oldest" seemed too wordy. It's possible you have me by a bit as well.

Anyway, good question. It was sometimes possible to tell Mark's SWB replicas if you saw them, as the curve of the roof wasn't quite right, just a little flat (at least on the blue Marchetti car). In this case I presumed this was a display or meet, and that this was Mark Gerish's display as the GTO wasn't finished. It seemed likely (knowing Mark) that he would display the GTO and perhaps one of his replicas to generate business. I have a feeling this is the SWB replica owned by Doc Murphy, but can't be at all sure.

And I could be totally wrong, too.

    Regards,

Old but maybe not the oldest Guy

To tie another thread to this one, I found a couple of photos of another old guy (Carbon's boss) calculating APIs on my 206 SP and 212, known as "Fred". This was close enough to 30 years ago to make his point. Back in those days we all had dark hair and (relatively) slim figures.

The third photo demonstrates one of Fred's nicer attributes: when you went out for a track day, you could take a couple of friends.

This isn't an even passable copy of anything, certainly not 0666.

The grey Vignale cabriolet is s/n 0227 EL, now in the Kroymans collection in The Netherlands. First owner David Niven. Thanks for the pictures! Do you know who painted the bumpers grey? Was it like that when you took hold of it?

    Best regards, Peter

Great thread with unexpected nostalgia included!

I met Mark Gerish and first saw the GTO Spyder at Elkhart Lake at (if memory serves) the Historics back in '91. After reading this thread the first time, I dug through my pictures from that era, and found that I do in fact have a low head-on shot of the car, still in raw alloy, with Mark in the background. I don't believe I can post pics (not subscribed) but would gladly scan & email it if someone would like to host it. The man has talent, and the car looks great for a reproduction.

As I cannot afford the real thing, I have no problem with repros, but certainly understand the position of those who do.

Thanks to all for the informative posts and pics, and trip down memory lane, esp. O.G.

    Peace,
    -Tad

What was the name of the TR replica a few years back, wasn't labeled as a Ferrari, but it's own brand. If I remember correctly, it had a BMW engine. I think they were made in Florida.

I know this thread is old, but I'm curious.... is the yellow LWB and the red SWB still around?

I built a LOT of parts for these two cars back in the day. I also built many parts for most of Mark's cars... Cobra's, Ferrari's, etc.

It would be nice to know where they today are and a little more about their history, as I lost track of them over the years.

Attached is a picture of Mark and I in the ZZ Top car going around Road America, (at speed!)
