Just got bloody towed in melbourne parked on city road in front of Eureka.. tow away zone started at 3:30, i got back to the car at 3:35 and the car was gone. I didnt see any sign of tow trucks etc, and i know it takes at least 5-10 mins to get it up on the truck. Anyway im yet to pick it up but hope for their sake there is no damage to the car. dont know how they tow it if they cant get the wheels moving but i will let them know my concerns when i pick the car up tonight... $315 for the tow, plus $110 for the fine....

    Real pissed off.

Anybody have any course of action against these pricks?

hah, my sisters car got towed in the exact same spot about 3 wks ago

gets taken to a rather new looking compound literally just around the corner from porsche centre melb. car had no damage when we picked it up, its a pretty routine thing.

they use a prominent melb towing co, not some backyard bloke with a '55 chev tray

stings though, $275 towing fee + $110 parking fine

well it's easily avoided, you just leave before the designated clearway time .... I use to get clamped all the time in London, not fun but you soon learn not to park in no parking zones :(

sorry to hear about your tow - but I wish the Perth city council used this technique - stupid f**kers leaving cars in morning clearways :(

I wondered the same thing, but one day while waiting for my bus I found the truth.

    They drag it.

    That's it.

As soon as the wheels get to the tray, they slide pretty easy on the metal.

    It was fun to watch....

U have no rights against them. Its clearly written on the signs not to park and you will get towed.Nasty i know!

What worries me is that the vehicle gets dragged onto a tilt-bed tray, that has gota put huge load on your transmission and skid your wheels etc etc

Was parked 25mins. on Hoddle Street today, illigal in a tow-away zone, [yeah i must have/am been a bit brain dead i even checked b4 i parked] bus drive rang it in and the police rocked up to book me, i came out of a building [good timing!] we made eye contact and
had a little chat and i agreed with EVERYTHING he claimed [alleged] its 100% correct, i was screwed.

He had been watching and timing me!!, they had all the anwsers i had nothing, so i just shut mouth and held my hand out,

I said i will bend over and u can shove it in....But wait a minute, HE LET ME OFF!!! i still dont believe it, thanks VicPoilce, what can one say???

MEMO Always keep mouth shut, dont question one thing they say and agree and nod head!

#2 working on Stonnington Council, Chapel Street parking fine, but of a tough one this.......

I used to sit in my office at North Sydney and watch this happen every day of the week on Walker Street.

Only problem was that they didn't use a tilt-tray. They would lift up the front and drag the car down the road to a side street to get it out of the clearway.

This would only happen though if their attempts to "break in" and release the handbrake, put it in neutral, etc failed.

so they are allowed to break in? thats nice to know... how about if the car is all wheel drive? then the wheels wont spin regardless? What a bunch of C*NTS! granted you cant have people in clearaway zones but surely there has to be a better way.

It won't help, but if you go back and have a look at the parking meter, it actually saids the clear way time starts at 4pm.

when i pick up my car, the front wheel kept on spinning, i wonder if they put something on the wheel. No damage to the cars, these guys are pros. Melbourne City Council is one of the worst money grabbers in the country, i can't wait to be a mate with John So and start park wherever i want in Chinatown.

Now you know why i *love* [well kind of] driving a van with Commercial "G" rego., i park where i like [inc. double, sometimes triple parked] hit the hazard lights, go on my merry way and never get any tickets or agro. The inspectors just walk on by [so they jolly well should!]

:EXCEPT Stonnington Council, Chapel Street, first parking ticket in 15 years+ of which i am currently going to war with!

Win or lose i will make them waste hours and hours on this $66 ticket, pain must be implemented!!

I love your style! :D Appearntly they said if every single person in victoria refuse to pay their speeding/redlight/parking fine, and just go to court, the system will break down and you won't go to court till 120 years later or something.

U gota love Stonnington Council, they have a proper dedicated stand alone parking fine website:

    http://www.stonningtonparking.com.au/

    LOVE this bit:

"The objectives of Stonnington Parking Service is to;"
    .
    .
    .
"Process all tickets, penalties paid and institute recovery procedures for any unpaid tickets quickly *****with the least possible delay and cost**** to achieve closure of the ticket

NOT with this little wood duckie!I want $1000 net cost to council for a $66 ticket, with heaps of delays, communications etc etc.

They can win the battle, i will win the war!

    Ciao

    M

PS This bit is total c/rap:

"Respond to all enquires politely, efficiently and effectively"

    When?

Sent them 3 emails and a fax, no reply.....GREAT start guys!

We shall see, busy now at the coal face so to speak...

Speaking of war-on-terror, USA are offering US$50 million for capture of BinLaden, the SOB must be somewhere, somebody must know something........or maybe we can get someone to dress up/act like him?

    Do the math, US$50,000,000

Yep, I agree completely. If you give them cheek, or lie, or display any attitude other than complete submission, they'll throw the book at you. Alternatively, be very polite, honest and remorseful and you've still got a chance (if you're lucky).

"2 ears, 1 mouth, listen twice as much as you talk"

That was the ONLY time i have been let off by the law, its a miracle, esp. when you consider they where watching the said van for over 20mins. [i kept a eye on the van too, had my GPS Nav. on display] thinking back a bit and what he said, they where waiting for the tow truck to arrive, which never showed [bus drive called it in]...LuckyMe!

When he spoke though, i thought it was a done deal, i was just waiting for the fine to be handed over, but it never came.

Then the punchline, "jump in your van and move it right now!" did/nt need to be told twice!

Still i am a D/Head for parking in a tow away/bus lane zone on Punt Rd.for over 20mins.! errrrrr doh!!

I was driving past the said area again today after 330 and sure enought there were no cars there but the lane is not used for cars anyway? the traffick cannot flow any better as this lane is still empty in rush hour...

    oh well, live and learn.

When I see cars using hazards when they are just illegally parked I feel like slashing their tyres so at least the hazard part is true.
