I have some small chips, a few milimeters in size (looks like rock chips), on my 360 red intake manifold. Does anyone know a good source for color matched touch up paint to fill in these chips? I don't think they are large enough to warrant having the whole piece refinished at a body shop.

Same here. I did a search on this site, and no real leads for a match......
Mine are 1/4 of an inch, 2 of them, so having a batch of matching paint made up seems like
    overkill.

I have a few chips in the same area that bug me.

I wonder due to the high heat is it powder coated???

Do we need special heat resistant paint???

Will a touch up look "acceptable" then turn ugly when it gets hot???

Maybe it's best to leave it as is.

Would like to know this also please if anyone has any advice? The paint has flaked off around the lettering of the ferrari logo so would be nice to touch this up.

Would like to spend a day buffing my engine compartment at the same time. Does anyone have any tips on what to use or more importantly what not to use? Degreasers etc?

    Thanks

Since I didn't get any better advice, I just tried touching the red paint on the air intake plenums myself. I just ordered a small bottle of Rossa Corsa touch up paint from an online touch up paint supplier I found at random. I just entered the paint code for Rossa Corsa. I then applied the touch up to the chips on my plenum. Since my chips are really small, this worked fine. I'm not sure if Rossa Corsa is exactly the same color as the red paint on the 360 air intake, but it sure is close! I had two tiny chips, less than 1mm, that were easy to fill with paint and are now invisible. Before they looked like white flecks. I had one larger chip that was maybe the size of a pea. I filled it in and up close I can see where the touch up is because the texture is not consistent. But at a distance it doesn't stand out and that's good enough for the $15 this fix up cost me!

If it helps i touched up mine around the 'ferrari' areas the other week.
I used normal smooth red Hammerite and then hand mixed in a tiny part of smooth black Hammerite until i got the red just the right shade. I went right up to the top of the letters then when dry sanded the red off the top of the letters using a flat block of wood and 400 grit wet/dry to reveal the silver aluminium again.
Been fine with hot engine temperatures for me so far.

I have been trying to figure out an answer to this dilemma for over a year as I too have a couple of very small "rock chip" like blemishes on my intake.

Someone on here did this repair maybe a year ago. They posted a thread on the process and paint that they used. I don't remember the thread name but maybe I will have time to search some this afternoon.

The threads I was able to find on FerrariChat were on some older model forums (512/TR, I believe) where folks have completely refinished the redhead. The finishes didn't quite have the same texture as the original wrinkle. And these were parts that needed to be completely repainted instead of just touch ups.

For me, the simplest thing was to just get some touch up paint and fill in the chips. Only thing that might have been better than just ordering a standard mix of Rossa Corsa body paint would have been to get a shop to mix up an exact color match. But I didn't know if it would make economic sense for someone local to mix 1/2 oz of paint for me. For those with small chips (the size of rock chips), I think you can get away with what I did. If your chips are larger, then I would guess a full refinish is what is necessary since I didn't hear of any suggestions for how you can touch up a wrinkle paint finish.

You could be right, the original application could be a powder coat.

I just had Frank at FZ Restoration in Livermore look at mine and he has done them before. The same red, the same wrinkle look. he is located in Livermore Calif. If interested here is the number. 925-294-5666. He just finished my F430 after someone keyed the passenger side and you can't tell the difference. Looks new. Very happy. Also re did my power coated wheels. Just a FYI from a newbie. Gorilla

It's been a couple of years since that last update on this thread but it doesn't look like anyone has found a good color match. Has anyone found the right color to match the air intake plenum cover? Worst case is we can redo them at the major this fall but I hate to wait hat long.

Problem is that Maranello painted these plenums/intakes over bare metal and they all will chip off eventually. My 308 plenum was in bad shape so I had the whole thing stripped and refinished. My 430 also had some of the paint come off around the SF shield. I touched that up with that VHT red wrinkle paint but it is a bit too red. I don't know of any other touch up that is an exact color match. I wish there was one. Maybe it has to be custom matched.

Been down this road. I tried the can wrinkle paint- too orange, and wrong texture. I ended up removing the plenum and I had it powder coated. Less textured than stock but I think more refined looking and it's vastly more durable. Looks fantastic and cost <100 bucks.

I did talk to Frank Zucchini and he may be willing to mix up touch up paint for u. I thought I would be able to touch up mine, but after I sent some pics 1/2 " chip, and a couple of smaller chips here and there missing Frank recommend complete repaint. I just decided to powder coat. Frank seems to really know what he is doing and is a really nice guy. Btw He hold me the plenum the same color as the body which I found surprising .

Powder is the best way. Prismatic powder has a allmost perfect match. The vht can stuff works good but does not match good for the oem look of the ferrari. The right way is to remove and powder coat it. Most of the new stuff is all expoxy and will take the heat.
