**Review of Edgewater Motors** I recently had a deeply troubling experience with Edgewater Motors in NJ, specifically with their owner, Matt. I took my Ferrari 355GTS in for a battery change and new tires. While Matt had the car, he also recommended replacing the oxygen sensors, which I approved. The problems began four days after I dropped off the car. Matt texted me, requesting my registration and insurance card. When I didn't respond immediately, he called me and mentioned he had been pulled over. I overheard a police officer in the background accusing Matt of speeding—doing 60 in a 30 mph zone. Matt insisted that he was merely pushing the car to reset an error code. Despite my concerns, I told him to be careful and allowed him to proceed. Six days later, Matt contacted me again, insisting on coming over to speak in person. This was unusual, as Matt is not a friend but my mechanic. When he arrived, he confessed that he had been in a “minor” accident with my car a few days earlier. He refused to show me pictures of the damage initially, and it took several days of persistent requests before he finally sent them. Even then, he wouldn't disclose the car's location and was uncooperative, displaying attitude and resistance whenever I inquired. Eventually, I discovered that Matt had been driving my car in the rain at 11:00 PM (without permission) and had TOTALED it. After reluctantly revealing the car's location, I had no choice but to have him arrested due to his actions and strong-armed tactics. Additionally, I had previously entrusted Matt with another vehicle (2004 CL600 in collector condition with 20k miles), which ended up flooding after his service. He bought that car from the insurance company and has been using it ever since. These experiences have been nothing short of a nightmare. Matt's behavior was unprofessional, deceptive, and downright reckless. I strongly caution anyone considering using Edgewater Motors to think twice. Their services are unreliable and could lead to significant issues, even with valuable and rare vehicles like my Ferrari 355GTS. If anyone had a similar experience, please reach out to me. I was already paid out by insurance but think they undervalued the car. Not sure if I have any other recourse here and guidance would be appreciated! Not even sure what type of lawyer. Hoping someone here can point me in the right direction. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
Since this was all done under the aegis of Edgewater Motors - a business - I would HOPE there’s business insurance on their end to cover this - and that insurance company would then be immediately dropping Edgewater’s insurance… Kevin
Holy Shhhit, this is awful. You’re a better man than I. I would’ve lost my f’in mind Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
I'm starting to think Edgewater may not be the kind of upstanding business that carries proper insurance, but definitely worth pursuing.
Gosh that sucks. If I got a call from my mechanic for my insurance and registration I would probably so.. "umm no you figure it out". Or even better I'd probably not answer for another hour and then call back "I'm so sorry I was away from my phone". A mechanic shouldn't be driving their customers cars all over town. At least you got a payout. I'd buy it back and fix it up myself. Edit: just saw the rear quarter panel. On second thought.. insurance can keep the car and sell it to some you-toober who can fix it on their channel.
If a repair shop ever calls and asks for your registration and insurance, just assume they are up to no good. I have been pulled over in client cars and after understanding I was a repair person driving it during business hours for work, registration and insurance for the car was never ever an issue. Dealer people getting pulled over isn't terribly uncommon and I have never heard of needing the clients reg and insurance.
Anyone who refers to me as “bro” is automatically not allowed to touch my cars or anything else I own or have an interest in.
Suggest Steve Lehto. He's in Michigan, but is a great auto specialist. https://www.lehtoslaw.com Big presence on YouTube. He can refer if he can't handle it.
Man this is just awful. I saw your post on FB. In the video you can see the guy getting put in handcuffs. I hope this gets straightened out. Did the insurance company treat you fairly? These are expensive cars to replace but even then you can never truly replace it.
Now now … growing up my mom told me often “ not all lawyers are Jewish “ … “ only the best ones “ … Sent from my iPad using FerrariChat
Unfortunately s*t happens - but if they did not have insurance, that's really terrible. I can't speak for other countries, but in France a repair shop should have insurance and even registration plates assigned to the business.
Sorry you had to go through this. Hopefully insurance treated you right and the mechanic gets what they deserve. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
That's true but one time I did happen to have to call a well known local SuperAmerica owner & ask for a new copy of his insurance because it flew out the top while I was driving to the inspection station. He asked me to get it inspected for him & I didn't secure the insurance card properly before taking off. I was completely embarrassed to have to even ask but he understood & he was cool about it.
In a twisted bit of irony, call the lawyers that lease the billboard above Edgewater's parking lot, see if they can assist. This way when this guy Matt goes to his shop, he'll be reminded every day of his screw-up. Your car is practically parked right under the billboard in the Google street view photo from March 2023, albeit looking glorious and a lot healthier than the after photos above, horrible situation and a shame you had to go through it. I'm curious, what made you use Edgewater in the 1st place? Their place is a stone's throw from 2 of the most highly respected Ferrari service centers in NJ. Just looking at this photo, the mix of cars and the "vinyl wrap" sign says to me "stay away". Image Unavailable, Please Login
I have to agree with the second part of your message. Nothing here screams out "I should bring my Ferrari there".
