I always enjoy Henry's unbiased reviews. Seems like he has some mixed feelings. what do you guys think ?
Agree. Seems to prefer over the sf90. I am 95% sure I am going to order one but split bw this and the forth coming GTS. Dealer said there is already a very, very long list.
In fear that he might be judged, he loves the green/quiet hybrid aspects of the car, but dislikes the performance that the hybrid aspect offers.
I know it has been beaten to death but what an EPIC car this would have been with ‘just’ that V6 and ~650 hp, much lighter, and strip out all noise reducing material, metal floors like Speciale, old school beautiful gauges, no gps or other gizmos...just an amazing Sunday toy. The body and everything else obviously meets crash standards, etc. Wow.
Henry was highly conflicted during this review. His words were filled with praise which were undermined by his complete paucity of emotion and excitement. At no time did he emote any sense of elation or exhiliration during his experience whether on track or the road. He needed to sleep on it before he would recite a conclusion about his sentiments over the 296. That in and of itself, spoke volumes. The clincher was his comment that the hybridization did not supplement the performance. This therefore is highly indicative of the supposition of why is it there? Ferraris are all about performance. If the electrification does not enhance the car's performance, it then must be questioned as to why it exists. Ferrari has created a marketing campaign predicated on the 296 being " Fun to Drive." For Henry, clearly not.
I'll chime in, compare to this: Ferrari 488 Pista: Road Review | Carfection 4K May 15, 2020 (despite the video's main protagonist, the Speciale is a frequent reference)
The contrast between the 2 reviews is stark. The Pista review is replete with exurberance. Henry's reaction exudes elation and exhilaration. He did not have to sleep on it before offering his inner thoughts. His Pista review emanated from his soul and elicits a similiar reaction from viewing the video. Furthermore, compare the engine sound between the 2 cars. The Pista sounds alive and visceral. The 296 muted and uneventful.
And recall the 296GTB employs a hot tube to enhance in-cabin engine sounds, the Pista does not utilize a hot tube.... As an aside, I have no idea, but I wonder, if the hot tube has a frequency range limit, I would imagine it does, if so, it would create an artificial sound as it would be removing some portion of the experience...
The 296 will be purchased by Ferrari die hards who rarely drive their cars. If Henry's review accurately describes the performance and driving dynamics and the sound is as anemic as heard on the videos, my interest in this car is zero.
Enjoyed the video, thanks for posting. This car's got way more technology than most owners will ever be able to appreciate, unless on a track. Side slip control, brake by wire, shorter braking distance and improved performance during trail braking (where a lot of your time is lost), six axis sensor 6w-CDS (which you'll notice on an off-camber turn), separation of hot and cold airflow, shorter wheelbase. The electronic nannies appear to have gotten smarter all around leading to the claim of 'fun to drive'. I get it now. Tracking my 458, I've come to realize how primitive and limiting the safety controls are, and how the nuances of dynamic control can be improved without killing the last of the safety nets. I applaud that Ferrari's done an excellent job of driver position, downforce, separating heat from cool, etc. And of course that lovely DCT (would love to compare it to the STO's, my high water mark thus far) But I'm just an engineer and easily impressed by technology, lol. The hybrid is what it is......will be interesting to see how other supercar manufacturers approach same........
I watched several reviews...and clearly the main conclusion for the EV component was being able to drive through European city centers. Screw them.
This is NSX 2.0 redux allllll over again. I saw it during catchpole's review - appreciation for the car, respect for the technology, admire what it's trying to do etc. However, it's car utterly devoid of any personality and emotion, and doesn't leave a lasting impression on the driver of wanting to go back and drive the car immediately. No lust whatsoever. I sold my NSX 2.0 and bought a Huracan Evo RWD because that's what I want in a car. Emotion, passion, engagement. The future is bleak for all these brands unless they can find a way to differentiate themselves - may as well be the same damn car underneath all of em - I expect the Artura to be no different.
Spoke to my sf dealer this morning… already 60, yes 60 preorder at just one of the 2 dealers. Car seems to be selling well Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Since it is selling well, my opinion of it has suddently been elevated to a level that has inspired me to get one.
Clever! I do suspect they will sell everyone they can build. All car makers will have supply chain issues well into 2023
I was chatting with Jason and he indicated 30 of those orders were just after the dealer reveal event last week! No indication if the factory can support them tho… SV
Yes Jason was telling me he is hoping ppl Actually back out to move to spider as they are thinking now 2 year wait Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Actually I believe the F8 Tributo was the first to use the hot tube resonators, because of GPF and how it interferes with the brightness of higher frequency sounds, no hot tube on 488s...
