this was sad news to me. who did not have a mongoose hot wheels? I hate to see us lose so many heros from the more glorious days of racing I am surprised this thread did not get more attention.
Funny story about Mongoose. Back in I believe 1978 ish. My father was friends with McEwen. He personally invited us to a race in Irvine CA. OCIR. I was 11 years old. I was so excited to go cause it got me that much closer to Don Prudhomme. I remember I wanted to hang out in Pruhomme's pits instead of McEwen's and only buy "The Army" merchandise. I guess I didn't understand the "friendly" rivalry they had.
Sorry to hear about the passing of another racing icon. He used to display his funny cars at Maple Grove Raceway during the NHRA meets. Bet the Snake shed a tear.
I loved going to Maple Grove Raceway - the NHRA event was close to the Summernationals in Englishtown (near where I grew up). I’d drive by myself about 2 hours to go to the races when I was maybe 18 years old!
