I have no idea where you can get one of these, but I think back in the 80s -they were offered, probably thru Ferrari lifestyle store. Here is an Ebay 308 that is selling for $35k, for that price, you can buy the real thing for your 16 year old. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1-2-Scale-Ferrari-308GTS-Junior-Italian-Built-Agostini-Autojunior-100-Mint-/160706251386?_trksid=p5197.m7&_trkparms=algo%3DLVI%26itu%3DUCI%26otn%3D5%26po%3DLVI%26ps%3D63%26clkid%3D5217879784810666132#ht_1614wt_1396 [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k2BQgZO1gDU&feature=mfu_in_order&list=UL[/ame]
+1. Exactly what I do with mine. Some days they're on, some days they're not, depends on what kind of mood I'm in.
That's what I've been looking for... the Agostini restore thread http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=130503 http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=133567
"Real" sheilds were painted on ... so no weight issue. Modern sheilds have got it all wrong IMO and only exist to make even more money for the company ... sigh. Pete
HD merchandising as a business model is legendary... and so is Ferrari's. This from 2003: http://www.usatoday.com/money/autos/2003-08-24-harley_x.htm And this from 2006: http://www.businessweek.com/globalbiz/content/nov2006/gb20061128_902772.htm
This should be its own thread, but its an incredible story told from the History Channel: Man, Moment, Machine. If you have never seen it, its terrific! Talking about building a Marque, I ran across the Ferrari story over the summer that was just fascinating. Its very inspiring and tells the story of Enzo Ferrari and the cars. I do badge mine. The shield just has allot of meaning and value to me. From reading the history of Enzo and how the emblem was given to him by the royal family of their WW1 flying hero to working for weeks hand painting my own 1/8 scale shields for my F40 scale model with autograph upgrade kit. That image is seared into my brain and has such meaning for me that I must put it on my Mondial. I use the cheap raised stickers that are easily removed when needed and replace them every year or so when I do a major detail on the paint. Easy enough to remove for concourse as well if I so wish. Cheers Dave
When I bought my car, the previous owner had added the shields, and when I protested the impurity of the shields on an 89 Mondial, he volunteered to remove them, but upon seeing the car in person, I really liked them. So, I did a complete reversal, and now I am a fan of the shields--mine are removable as well.
You've missed the point. Once upon a time it was used on racing cars and meant something very important. Now it is over used and has lost its significance. So yeah if making a few cents more per car is what it is all about ... but we already have GM for that. Ferrari built where it is now by putting racing first and selling cars second. Something changed ... and every year the brand is being cheapened ... Pete
One man's "cheapened" is another man's "more profitable". Isn't that the goal of every company... to make more profit?
Short term gain can cause long term devaluing of a brand. This is what is currently happening to Ferrari. Ferraris purpose used to be to win races. Profit came second, seriously, when Enzo ran the shop. Pete
Its true that Enzo cared more for racing than the retail side of the business, but this was the 40s-50s, totally different time. He wanted to build the best cars and to make people want to buy his cars to associate to having the best! Today, the Ferrari prancing horse brand is well known in every part of the world and only getting more popular as a brand. Ferrari has expanded their branding and licensing to use their marque because the demand and sales are up. Now there is always a chance to over expose the brand but Ferrari controls this by making limited amounts of cars and merchandise which makes them even more valuable as collectors items. So, there are alot of smart people at Ferrari that knows what they are doing, I would not worry about the brand being cheapened anytime soon!
But isn't this why the whole organization was in trouble and he had to sell "ferrari road cars" to FIAT? We might be thankful to the profit motive or Ferrari may be an automotive footnote, the few remaining to be in collections, with generations of people who had never heard of it.
+1 It's a matter of taste...whatever appeals to you. I personally don't like tattoos nor shields...but let's not get too carried away...let's just say that I would still take the car with shields for a spin...oh, I have! I just wouldn't take it home to mom...
Sorry to pick up an old thread but I have a question. I don't like shields on road cars but that's just my opinion. What really bothers me are SF-shields on private entered racing cars. This seems to be a common practice since many years. Photo shows AF-Corse 458 Italia at Le Mans 2011, but many prodrive 550s did have shields too. Is there a rule wich team uses shields? I thinks this is very confusing because many of these cars were build an entered without any support of the factory. Perhaps this shows that the shield lost it's meaning. Opinions? Best, Till. I'm not a shield guy or a tattoo guy, but each to his own. If the woman or car makes you happy, then the presence or lack of either is relatively inconsequential!!!
