I just ordered a set of GTO rims from Nick and am shopping for tires. Nick said a 245 for the back and a 225 for the front with a 35 to 40 sidewall should fit fine. Personally I like a bigger sidewall so I was going with the 40. The back isn't a problem but a 225 in a 40 sidewall is impossible to find. Does a 45 fit on the front? I know alot of BMWs have a 225/45 in the front with a 245/40 in the rear. Any advise would be appreciated as well as pics with 17" GTO rims and tire configs. Thanks in advance!!

Are they like these? I need to confirm on the tire size. I think the backs are 35s and the fronts are 40s. Wouldn't mind having a stock set of wheels as well, but I have enjoyed them. Get lots of comments from them. Good Luck. (Nice Looking '79)

I have Compomotive Wheels 17x8 and 17x9, Goodyear Eagle F1, 225/45R17 and 255/45R17. Mine is an 89 328, so the offset moves the bolt surface out more (less dish). No rubbing, front diameter the same as stock, rear diameter is about 1/2 inch larger, but it made my speedometer accurate.

I hope they look like those cause those look great. I'll put some pictures up when I get them on but it sounds like 45s around since two people have now told me they won't rub. If someone thinks they will please post before I mount the tires in a couple of weeks...thanks again for the advice.

Caution, they don't rub on the 328. There may be differences in the 308, but I don't know.

For those who asked about the wheels, do a search here for "Compomotive wheels", and you should find some info and more pictures.

Confirming Size from earlier post. 225/45/17 on front. 225/40/17 on the back. 328. I know they do NOT rub... Not sure if any mods were done. Previous owner put them on. Good Luck. Post Pics when you can.

As far as rubbing, when I bought mine from Compomotive, they very knowledgable on offset to prevent rubbing. If you go with them, they will recommend an offset and tire size to meet your needs. I said I want the tire to be even with the edge of the fender, and it is exact. I was told that I can go even wider on the rear (due to the offset built in), and I believe it, since the tire is still over an inch from the spring (the main rubbing worry in the rear). However, it would stick out past the fender.

Like I said before, I kept the overall diameter close to stock with a lower profile. Call Compomotive and research. They should steer you correctly on tire size specific to the wheel you order for your year and model.

You can go as wide as a 255 /40 with no issues on the rear, on the fronts most guys are running a 225/ 45. It depends on how agressive you want your car to look, I run 265/ 35's on my 3.5 liter 308 on the rears.
The wheels are also avail from me as we sell the 288 GTO CONVERSION PACKAGES & this is the wheel that we use on the cars that we are currently building.

    Nick,
Good looking cars. On the GTO, are those Compomotive? The center looks different (chrome).

I'll let Nick confirm but when I talked to him the other day he said that these are the only GTO wheels he's ever sold. The chrome center must be an update. If my centers aren't chrome I know my first stop when I get my wheels will be a chromer...It really makes a difference in the wheels.

Nick, what wheel dimensions would you suggest for the GTO wheels for a car that has the GTO conversion?
