I'm going through my 100,000 km service and am on the timing chain check. I'm just not sure what bad sounds like! I can hear the chain running inside there, kind of a whrrrr sound that alters in pitch with engine rpms. I don't hear any rattling or anything. My tensioner has just over 5mm left on it so I'm guessing I'm close to the limit... Any help would be appreciated!

Owners manual reflects timing chain tensioning every 20km, doesn't mention replacement interval however. They aren't death defying! Service manuals instruct to increase tension until a slight sound is heard in the timing chest, then backing off until sound disappears. Tensioner adjusting assy. located on drivers side of timing chest/down low. Try backing it off.

My guess is you might get more response by filling out your profile.
Any info you care to share with us @ your 365gt or 400 or 400i or 412(serial#, color in/out, auto or gt, any nuances, etc.)?
