Exactly: I lost count of the cars "designed with Rory's help" or "under Rory's supervision", "under Rory's technical guidance", etc... it is not the question of Rory's age, but the fact that they keep trying to find the solution to today's and tomorrow's problems with yesterday's people. Going that way, Mauro Forghieri is available and still very alert also; and at 84, not much older than Rory Byrne. That they are at the bottom of a deep hole is all the more evident with such desperate answers. McLaren has acheived a real turn-around, this is the kind of effort Ferrari should study. By the way, I think that for short and medium term (let's keep some hope for the long term...) Daniel Ricciardo has made a better bet than Carlos Sainz Jr... Rgds
And guess who is their Racing Director? Andrea Stella, ex...Ferrari. After James Allison now at Mercedes, another ex-Ferrari guy blossoming in another team. Rgds
It looks like everybody benefits from the meltdown at Ferrari !!! As for Carlos Sainz Jr, what was he thinking signing so early in the season without knowing ?
Astonishing prediction before the race - you might as well send in your CV and direct them to your post Best, Sammy
"Would have", "Should have" cut no ice with me. Act in haste, repent at leisure. Chosing the right team is also the trademark of a top driver. I am sure that you have heard of "Le corbeau et le renard". (The fox and the crow).
It’s the stupid guy from the Italian motorsport.com who always comes up with the same made up stories on Ferrari. This one with the constant B cars and evolution engines coming in a few races that never materialise. Italian reporters and media are mostly full of ... and one of the reasons the team is so dysfunctional
Lewis choosing a top team? He's driven for two teams total in F1. He was in the Mclaren junior program from age 12 and then aggressively recruited by Niki Lauda for Mercedes. He's made one decision to change teams. Lewis didn't choose Mercedes, Mercedes(Lauda) chose him.
Hamilton switched teams from McLaren while they were still good and went to the very mediocre MB team. Everybody in the media and everybody on here said he was nuts to do so. Turns out he made the perfect call. While Lauda was luring him, it was Hamilton who had to make the decision. Nobody put a gun to his head to sign the contract. And yes, only two teams. Which is also by his decision to stick with a good team. Look at the mess other drivers made by switching constantly. Ricciardo comes to mind.
Exactly, during the Todt era , they had very tought time with him. Famously Leo turrini called him " the french penguin "
Well, there are many "Captains Hindsight" in F1. When Alesi signed for Ferrari, they better than Williams, and when he moved to Benetton, they were better than Ferrari too. Also, when Sainz signed for Ferrari, they were better than McLaren. All those were rational and obvious choices. Hamilton moving from McLaren to Mercedes was a riskier move. But I suppose he first got some information before: he probably knew that Mercedes was throwing lots of money into the new Formula, that they had been working on that for years and that they were going to stop supporting McLaren. I don´t think that these things are decided by "intuition". Oh, well, and money hepls, of course.
The ultimate award for weirdest career choice goes to Jenson Button: For years he was the laughing stock of F1 for constantly choosing the looser team for the next year. Then he did it again with team Brawn, which struggled to get an engine deal and build a car. Only that this time the racing Gods were on his side and he walked the title. Only real challenge was his team mate.
