Word is going around that the R8 V10 is a contender for the top spot on the Ring. Word comes from Auto Motor Sport, which apparently is very reputable source, though I can't back that claim up.

Here's the article in Swedish. Don't ask for a translation, I can't, but other places have.

On paper it doesn't seem likely, but neither did the GT-R. Only time will tell.

Here are the very basics of how they should match up on paper. The specs for the V10 haven't been officially released, but they should be very close.

    GTR vs V10 R8

    480 hp vs 525 hp
    430 lb/ft vs 398 lb/ft
1730 kg vs 1560 kg (though expect a tad more for the v10)

I thought that they were doing the turbo diesel W12 instead of the V10?

Where did you see a Ring time for the LP560? I have yet to see one posted anywhere.

I wish instead of measuring these new cars by their ring time, I wish they would be measured by "This is by far the most fun I've ever had driving a car." I know the Veyron can get around a track quickly and same with the GTR, but many people have knocked it for being a bit disconnected and not as involving or exciting as other cars. On the other side of the fence you have the Ariel Atom which isn't the fastest, but gets great praise for just being a damn fun car to drive around.

And can someone tell me why the ring is the be all, end all of tracks that cars are measured against? Why was this track in particular chosen? Just curious.

I think they test on the ring because of the stress it puts on the car. It's a very difficult course and really pushes the car to it's limits when driven hard. The cars experience every possible combination of road layout. Some cars do some stuff better than others, but this levels the playing field by throwing everything at the cars.

I stand corrected on the torque, as GT-R apparently rates torque at the wheels.

When was the LP560 tested on Top Gear? Did I miss that one?

However, no manufacturers are out for the best ring time possible, and who knows what tweaks they might do to try for a slightly better number, I ignore anything that is pre production, and possibly pre release as well.
