Its time to fix the Air Conditioning on my 360. Previous owner tried to have the system charged, but the current AC compressor turned out to be bad. Seems like the clutch has a dead short as the fuse is blown, and blows as soon as it is replaced. After an inspection of the actual compressor, it also seems that it was leaking referigerant pretty good since the bottom of the compressor was coated with green residue. After looking at the previous service records, it looks like the original compressor has been rebuilt TWICE. I dont know if i want to just send it off and have it rebuilt again, or look for an alternative? I have read several threads where people have ordered chinese compressors and have had no issues with them? Its about the same cost to either buy a chinese replacement, or get the original rebuilt. I can do my own vacuum and charge the system after replacement of the compressor and dryer. I definitely dont think i want to order a factory replacement given the cost. Im worried that if i have it rebuilt again, its just gonna fail again in a few years. I think i have more confidence in a chinese reproduction these days given the propensity of the factory compressor to be problematic. Any feedback on the chinese units?

Either way rebuilt or China both can be damaged if system is not properly cleaned from fail compressor debris…. Install new bits and fill w right oil and charge properly.

let us know how you get this fixed

Try the chinese system if you can do the work. I installed a used compressor in my beater 986 Boxster and it worked great today. Install it, use it, and if it dies in a year.. drain the system and put a proper unit in or another chinese compressor.
