Thanks a ton Don and Carolyn for planning this year's event. I know it is a ton of work and greatly appreciated!

The police escort was really cool and the guys at the Lewisville Fire Department really went out of their way to make us feel welcome.

I asked Sydney, my 7-year old daughter, what her favorite part of the day was. I mean, she got to look at a bunch of cool cars, act as my navigator during the run, ride in the front seat of a fire truck, and then to top it off she got to go up 60 feet in the air on the truck ladder! She thought about it for a moment and said... "Just cruising in the Ferrari!" THAT'S MY GIRL!!! :D

Thanks again to all involved. Looking forward to the next event!

Boy oh boy! Everyone should give themselves a big pat on the bag. What a turn out. We had printed up 35 maps and had 1 left over. An amazing array of cars from Lancia's to Carrera GTs-thanks Brian for letting everyone enjoy that beautiful car and may I point out what an excellent choice of color!
The people at the fire station went completely overboard in welcoming us and that ladder ride was a blast. Steve Carter, the fire chief, certainly deserves a round of applause.
The police escort at first I did not think that would happen but Todd Taylor with the Lewisville Police Dept. stepped up to the plate and organized that aspect. When we were going east on 1171 and the traffic going in the opposite direction was stopping I felt we were at a Ferrari Funeral. Literally laughing out loud.
Also I would like to thank Jano who helped with the fire department and managed to get the restaurant at the last minute and set up the cones.
But the group I would like to thank the most is all of you guys! You made it happen and I am sure that there are a whole lot of kids that will be thankful that you did!
I have no idea what the toy haul wasbut Carolyn and I were towards the end of the line and Captain Carter looked at me and said "you've got to be kidding me there is still more."
I was hoping that this run would exceed the other two and it did so by a mile--a million thanks to all of you!

    Some pics I took.

What a great time for a good cause! As my first Ferrari Chat event, I would classify it as a great success and introduction to the group and I look forward to the next one.

    Great Job!

Great event. Thank you for all of your planning. The police escort was an exciting first for me. Did anyone get any pictures from the top of the ladder truck? I'd love to see them.

    Don,

Kudos on such a well run event. The many hours of work you put in showed in how organized it was. It was great fun and the escort and fire engine bucket ride was something I'll never forget. The opportunity to help kids out was icing on the cake.

This was my first event of this kind and I'd like to express thanks to all for making a Porsche guy feel welcome. I look forward to other chances to mix the Carrera GT with the Prancing Horse in the future - especially when I learn how to drive it.

I believe that the fellow that was taking the pictures was from the newspaper. If so it would be the Lewisville Leader. I talked to the fellow who was writing the article and there may be some pictures there. The site is www.lewisvilleleader.com and then you will have to scroll down through the various publications until you get there. I am not sure if the article is up yet or not.

Oh the video guy. Jim it is actually part of the Toy Run Mystery! Remember last year and we had the video crew show up and all of their work apparently vanished into the "either", perhaps the same as this year. "Be afraid, be very afraid." :)

Toy Run gets police escort into Lewisville
    BY DAN EAKIN, Staff Writer
(Created: Tuesday, December 11, 2007 6:02 PM CST)
Some thought it was a funeral procession.

They pulled over to the side of the road as police motorcycles and squad cars escorted 32 sporty, exotic, expensive-looking cars from the west city limits into the Central Fire Station parking lot in Lewisville Saturday morning.

Names on the cars in the run included those of Ferrari, Corvette, Porsche, BMW, Lotus, Lexus, Lamborghini and others.

The third-annual toy run, organized by Don and Carolyn Rose of Dallas, began at the Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth.

Owners of each car, in order to qualify to be in the toy run, had to agree to bring at least one gift to be distributed by the Denton County Children’s Advocacy Center, to abused children. Most, if not all, brought more than one gift, Rose said.

The drivers, many of whom were accompanied by their spouse and/or children, were greeted by Lewisville firefighters who escorted them to a room which they promptly filled with toys for the children.

Dan Leal, executive director of the Denton County Children’s Advocacy Center, said the toys will go to “fill in the gap” for families of abused children who have not been adopted.

The Children’s Advocacy Center has a Holiday Adoption Program in which individuals, businesses or organizations adopt families of abused children to make sure they have what they need for Christmas.

Leal said there are at least 10 or 15 families that have not been adopted, and that the toys provided by the people in the toy run will go to those families.

“We really appreciate this,” Leal said. “This will be a huge help.”

Rose noted that many of the children at the Central Fire Station parking lot Saturday morning were members of the families who own the exotic cars, and had come along to enjoy the ride.

Children who came in a car with a parent, as well as some of the adults, were treated to bucket rides from the fire department’s ladder truck. One woman donned a complete set of firefighter gear.

Rose explained that, while all of the cars in the toy run are attention-getters, not all are expensive.

“Some of the older model Porsches and others could be purchased for as low as $28,000 or so,” he said, “while others are newer and quite expensive. The Porsche Carrera GT is worth about $450,000.”

He said several of the cars in the toy run are worth at least $100,000. In all, he estimated that the total worth of cars in the run was at least $1.25 million.

A good portion of the cars in the toy run were from Ferrari and Lotus clubs in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

Battalion Chief Steve Carter provided leadership in organizing the hosting of the generous visitors.

“Steve Carter did a great job,” Rose said. “We all had a wonderful time at the fire station. Also, Capt. Todd Taylor and Sgt. Chris Kemp did a great job in organizing the police escort into town.”

“A lot of people seemed to think it was a funeral procession, because they pulled over to the side of the road,” Rose said. “A woman in one of the cars said, ‘If there can be a funeral procession like this, this is the way I want to go.’”

Rose said he and his wife had the idea of organizing the toy run about three years ago and posted their plans on the Internet. Members of various car clubs from all over the Dallas-Fort Worth area have responded each year.

Their first toy run, in 2005, was in cooperation with the Salvation Army in Greenville. Last year, the car owners coordinated with the Denton County Firefighters Association for a drive into Denton with gifts, which also went to the Children’s Advocacy Center.
