Hi everyone, Nice to meet you. This is my first post on Ferrari Chat! I am currently in the market for Ferrari FF. Currently looking at 2012 (between 5~15k miles) with option to purchase extended warranty. How are reliability of FF? Is there particular part where I should look into? As I plan to use this as my daily driver, I would like to make sure they do not "break" often. Thank you for your time and feedback!
I'm on my second FF. Both are daily drivers, sharing mileage with a California, driven in the winter, snow and ice in NW Ohio. The FF is Ferrari's best kept secret, an amazing car. I've had a few things go on them but certainly nothing that you can look out for. I'd look at the repair history and make sure that all of the complaints have actually been fixed. Some gremlins are difficult to find. My '12 had a periodic right bank lean or rich error that tripped the engine light. It took quite a few tries for Ferrari to fix it. My current '14 FF has an intermittent bug where it shuts down when stopped at a traffic light or stop sign with no warning, and does not pop an engine light. My '12's second owner had a speed sensor go in the transmission, resulting (I think) in the transmission staying in odd gears. Fortunately my dealership has a mechanic trained in fully disassembling the trannie but it was a couple day repair which could not have been predicted. I don't think there is anything else to look for! Personally, I'd rather have one that was driven daily than a garage queen. The queen may still have lurking problems that have been fixed in the daily driver. Good luck in your search! Remember to look over the dealer's history!
Wow Thank you Rick. I will definitely look out for the ones you have just mentioned! Would it be wise to ask PPI report on these cars? I am currently looking at the following FF and I am towards 3,4,1 if there is a possibility to purchase or extend the warranty. Your time and feedback is very appreciated! 1. 2012 FF with 25k miles with no extended warranty but cheap $158,888 (Will try to offer $145,000) 2012 Ferrari Ff Base 2dr Coupe In Hollywood FL - Jumbo Luxury Cars 2. 2012 FF with 21k miles with extended warranty with little options $169,900 (Will try to offer $155,000) Used 2012 Ferrari FF For Sale | Van Nuys CA 3. 2012 FF with 9500 miles with no extended warranty with all specs i need $179,000 (Will try to offer $165,000) Used 2012 Ferrari FF For Sale | Van Nuys CA 4. 2012 FF with 8880 miles with no extended warranty with all specs i need yet with questionable interior. I have a 64 plate FF. I've done 4K miles in the 5 months I've had it, using it everyday. I've had no issues at all. The more I drive it the more I fall in love with it and could never be without a 4 seater Ferrari. Get one and enjoy every moment. I often get people winding their windows down and asking me why I'm so happy, do they really need to ask?!!!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Ferrari Service manager here in LA says the more these are driven the better, in his experience. Get that warranty and enjoy. Things to look out for IMO, cheap cars with weird stories from non F dealers.
Thank you everyone! I am leaning towards 2012 with higher miles that I can potentially purchase extended warranty and then buying "new power" warranty. However, my dealer gave me an interesting offer over the phone... Leasing brand new California T and they will be extending an option for me to purchase and place an order for new gtc4lusso. What do you guys think? I leased my BMW I8 due to its attractive offer, but I am not sure how FFS is. It is still an option but I feel like 2012 FF will be more budget friendly to me Appreciate everyone's feedback and time reading my thread!
Good advice above, We owned and drove our 2013 FF (7k miles) and our now on our second. They are GREAT cars, period. A few thoughts 1) why 2012, vs. 2013? I ask only because 2012's were lower in numbers, there were a lot of high MSRP/optioned dealer cars (which perhaps you can get a huge discount on, or not) and the 2013 is essentially the same car, though in 2013 they had all the updates (gearbox, seatbelt handover, etc) and 2013's had more "Standard" equipment (about $15K worth for same MSRP as 2012). Definitely focus on the spec you want, condition, miles, but I"d open up to looking at 2013's as well to increase your potential market. 2) problems? some had gearbox issues, but appears to be very few. Some typical annoying low-volume car glitches, but the powertrain is bulletproof. An extended warranty would be wise to get, but likely to be un-used. make sure ALL updates and campaigns are done, and get a full PPI by a FF qualified tech (i.e. dealer). I think you can CPO an FF. 3) FFS (Ferrari Financial Services) is actually quite good. They are a boutique bank, have worked a lot with them and they are great. You can probably find lower rates elsewhere, but in terms of understanding the "deal" with Ferraris, they are quite good. 4) as for the FF vs. the T....no doubt your dealer would prefer to sell you a NEW car, and some of FFS' closed end lease deals have been pretty good. OTOH, FF vs Cali T is very different, so really it's more up to you knowing what you want. I'd be cautious about running the full economics of getting into (and out of) a Cali lease on trade for a GTC4....look long ways out, consider the depreciation impact. If you're being cautious on the used FF for price considerations, doing a short term lease will probably burn up some money unless you have an ironclad deal with the dealer. Good luck
Thank you Entropy! Much appreciate your feedback. 1. Will definitely look into 2013! It looks like there are a lot of 2012 or 2014 in the market for now. I will keep my eyes open 2. Isn't gearbox covered under extended warranty/new power warranty? I know its consumables but I am guessing the problems that its mentioned here are warranty related. I will definitely be asking for PPI on FF. CPO will be nice, but I would be just happy to extended warranty if possible 3. I was planning to use either BOFA or Chase to finance the car, but I will definitely look into FFS. I do think I will be selling my FF after 2-3 years and move onto different F car. 4. You are right. I do have 430, 458, and Cali in Korea where I do have to agree that each cars are very very different. Never owned NA V12 Ferrari; F12 is still bit out of budget but it looks like FF is right around my range now. Thank you for your feedback.I will most likely focus on getting used ff Hopefully FF are reliable as they will be daily driven (~5000 miles/year)
Yes, it's covered by extended new and by new power. I know the Van Nuys dealer well and can test the cars if you like. I'm sure all solid, they have a great service shop there.
Thank you Brian Currently chatting with James at Ferrari of Los Angeles to take my car as trade in for their 2012 or 2014 FF as well. Will love to drive I-5 in FF if the deal happens
James is as good as it gets. Great guy, no BS. The 46 between 101 and I-5 The black car is newer to them, then pearly white one has been there over a year.
You won't have any trouble getting a GTC4Lusso should you want one. Just as nobody had an issue getting their hands on a FF. If you really prefer the Lusso over the FF, then yeah, get into a Cali T lease now and let them "pull you forward" into a Lusso lease when they come out. I had a couple close calls with FFS, they seemed to be very fair and easy to work with. I'd have no qualms working through them and the dealers are more likely to negotiate on a used FF if you use FFS (I'm sure they get a kicker) versus another bank.
James is top notch at FoLos Angeles. Great service tech there also. Can also send a note to StevenB here on Fchat as he works with both F dealers in SoCal and I've used him on several cars to get the best deal.
Thank you everyone! I am leaning towards the white 2012 FF at the dealership if they can do a competitive pricing as its been sitting there for over a year (according to Brian) I am waiting on James to get back to me in regards to the R8 PPI RAZOR GTR trade in and I hope to work something out with James to get FF in my garage Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Just a thought. There are many good cars at a good price on the market, I would not buy a car because no one else wants it, but because YOU DO!
Brian is correct, pick the car that has the options that you want, the colors that work for you! You always want a dealer to do a PPI. It will cost you but it is well worth the comfort. Then when she is cold be gentle but as the temperatures come up have fun! The FF's V12 sounds wonderful from 3,000 to 8,250 rpm and you should hear that sound every day.
Thank you everyone! Steven has been extremely helpful throughout and I do plan to close the deal within 1-2 weeks with him!
Nice selection? I only own v8 Ferraris purchased from Ferrari dealers and got 4-5% off max. Do v12 models get 9-10% discounts?
yeah, its very nice car. just worried what the paint will be like underneath. For me its either 2012 or that wrapped 2014. It looks like recently 2014 have dropped significantly.. White is beautiful! although silver/grigio silverstone is still my 1st choice haha I am probably going to lock down either 12 or 14 at Ferrari LA through Steven by next week If I can grab the 14 with 2 years extended for between 180k-190k range, im going to take it instantly FF is superb car, totally different from my 458 or cali in korea. I loved it ALOT
I won't intrude on your choices but if black is not your choice I may like to call Steven and drive it and take a look.
