Been a some time since I posted something , but I just had to share my experience of what happened to my 348 tonight. Juat had a engine out service from a very reputable Ferrari mechanic about two weeks ago , belts tencheners pullys etc.. Plus some other service. I'm not going to name names just yet. I took my car out for drive for the second time tonight since I got it back . As I was cruzing at about 60km and without any warning most heart reaching sound a Ferrari driver does not what to hear. My timmig belt snapped !!! I quickly knew what happend , so I threw it into neutral and let the car cost to a safe spot. I called my machanic , left him a very stong worded message on what the f just happped.
Any thoughts and how this could of happened?

Oh man, sorry to hear. You won't know the root cause of how it went until you get in there... damaged belt, pulley fence/sprocket bearing, tensioner bearing... What did you have them replace in the course of work? One thing I've learned in situations like this is that sometimes timing of a failure post-work is coincidental, sometimes it is not, and it is always best to stay level headed and objective.

Best of luck, and keep us posted.

Very sorry to hear. But your mechanic's heart will sink to the floor when he gets your message. His reputation is at stake. His mind will start racing trying to think of any possibility as to how it happened.

Will likely be at a loss until he can put his eyes & hands on the car and be able to identify the reason for your issue. There have been a number of parts failures in the industry as of late. I have personally run into a rash of incorrectly part numbered grills. I have over $1,000 in wrong grills from Ferrari in my office. Both packages had the correct number, but the wrong part came out. One from Ricambi and the other from Ferrari, directly.

Please remain calm and allow your trusted mechanic to figure this out. He will take this every bit as personally as you do!

Sorry to hear of your misfortune. You say you threw it in neutral - was the car still running or did you have to endure the sound of your valves being crunched? Just wondering if there's any chance it could be an accessory belt rather than timing. Crossing fingers for a good outcome for you!

Sounded like a playing card closes pined to the front forks of bike and slapping against spokes . I only had endure that sound for a few sec .

Sorry to hear about your car.

This is why I have NEVER used an independent Ferrari mechanic. When I have work done on my cars, I only go to a Ferrari dealership with Ferrari parts, I get a two year warranty on all work performed.

    I'm ready to be flamed.

    Flame #1.

The two dealerships that have worked on my six Ferraris have awesome people in the service departments. As long as I use factory Ferrari parts I get a two year warranty on all work performed.

It is all about the Dealership standing by their work. Bad things can happen at a Ferrari Dealership. Losses caused by replacement part failure, or technicians mistakes will be covered. The service department has to take a hit that is absorbed as a loss in that months profit / loss.

That's not a flame, that was a question.

Do you want me to tell you my experience at a Ferrari Dealership?

Probably forgot to tighten a bolt on a bearing or tensioner. This is easily done and has the same result when they back out. All it takes is an interuption during reassembly.

Hope it gets work out soon. Let us know the diagnosis

Seriously? The belt is gone??? Wowzer.

Images of bent valves running through my head. 348 has one belt for both banks correct? Ouch.

    Hope that shop is insured.

People are human, mistakes happen. Investigate properly and see what the shop does to remedy this. The judgement should come from how they handle the situation.

Yup, it's possible. Failure to fully tighten a cam cog or tensioner can cause it to cock and the belt to track off or up against a fence. That's why they got that fancy yellow paint.
