Isn't the FCA open to new ideas? Just tossing it out there. If you want to invigorate the FCA PA/NJ why not add additional components? Of course, as a one day event, maybe tracking is out, but nothing like some spirited go carting to liven up the gang. I think it's great that PA/NJ is looking for new digs, and trying to keep Pietro's spirit and enthusiasm alive. Just trying to think outside the box a little. D
Dave, Thanks for your suggestions. We are open to new ideas and since the FCA is a self organizing club, it take members to bring these ideas into reality in our region. While I like your ideas, I still think it would be difficult to add them to an existing event. I think carting would be fun but again it can be an all day event by itself. While I understand that a judged concours is not for everyone at the same time over 100 Ferrari owners participate in this event. Members who participate see regional judged events as place to learn to prepare their Ferraris for larger national shows. This is only one aspect of the FCA. The way to influence the FCA to have the kind of events you are suggesting is to join the club and volunteer to host an event and we will put it on the calendar and I will support you. I am a active member of the Fiat, Alfa Romeo, Maserati and Ferrari Clubs and I also attend many non-club event from Washington DC to Boston and beyond. I do not solely depend on the FCA for all of my sports car enjoyment. Each club and event is different and they have their own culture. I will come down to the West Chester CC diner at the Simeone and explore your ideas to "invigorate the FCA." As Pietro use to say, "Walk by my side and become my friend," Barry
Hi everyone... Has anyone looked into Aronimink Golf Club in Newtown Square to hold this event? It is beautiful, has an area when you drive in that is open grass/field (in which they park cars), great food...and have hosted other motorcar events in the past...just a thought....Happy to make a call. Trying to get a little input on the best route to the event. I live fairly close and have been to the museum several times, but trying to figure out the least bumpy way to get my 355 there. Thoughts??
Mark, From your location I would take RT322 to the Commodore Barry Bridge then down 95 and exit on Bartram Ave.
Did anyone ever go to La Bella Macchina? They had a couple good locations, I loved the one by the Casino! Maybe for the years coming?
Give the Club a chance at the Simeone Museum. Pietro was a good friend and every time we'd get together we would always discuss the current headaches of putting on these events, stuff the participant (hopefully) never sees. If it doesn't work out at the Museum the club is more than welcome to incorporate it into their presence at Le Belle Macchine: Pocono. With Vicky's blessing we would be honored to name the Ferrari Best of Show Trophy the Pietro Castiglione Award. But give the club a chance first at the Simeone Museum.
Where and when is this event going to be? I want to put this on my calendar. Is it Ferrari only or can I bring my Lamborghini also? Anyone going to update this thread with the final details or any link to a webpage where we can sign up, send our money etc...?
Exotic Car Gear is proud to be a Sponsor of this event Barry has been working his A*s off. It will a great event Rain or Shine. Please stop by our Booths and say hello Carbon Fiber Auto Parts & Accessories - Exotic Car Gear, Inc.
Celebration of 40 years of the 308 this year. IMHO the reason anyone can buy these amazing new Ferrari's is because of the success of this little Gem. Still one of the most beautiful car designs ever. Hey, but I'm very prejudiced . Bob in Md. Packing over 100 grand on this well worn little beauty.
Hey Sunir, since no one seems to have answered your question ...here you go: Ferrari Club of America Penn-Jersey Region Pennsylvania Concours d' Elegance Sunday May 17, 2015 Held at the Simeone Foundation Automotive Museum Contact: Barry Cross via PM: Green308GTSi or email: [email protected] - Bill
Thanks Bill looks like I may have a conflict on the 17th I sure would like to attend, Simeone is fantastic, Dr. Simeone is a great guy and wow the cars!!! I had my Aston Martin on display there in the spring of 2013 for Best of Britain exhibit in honor of Aston's Centennial that year 1913 - 2013 !!! If you guys have other events, car shows, concourse etc...would love to know about them. We recently had a 'Spring Thaw' event with the Ferrari club here in the MD/VA/DC area.
Sunir. Keep an eye on this section of F-Chat for virtually everything we set-up to do as a group. If anything there is frankly almost too many things to choose from as opposed to 10 years ago when lots of us started hanging around. Almost nothing we do is done exclusive of anyone no matter what kind of car (except occasionally single mirror Testa Rossa) or anything else for that matter.
Barry, I am in a fix here. Don't mean it to sound like criticism. I have a 79 308 as you have seen, but I have put well over 80,000 hard miles on it. I'm not a rich guy by any means, but when it comes to the meet at Simeone I am hard pressed to pay the $75 fee to bring my car up there to display for people who will only be paying a small percentage of that to come and see the cars. Honestly there is not a chance my car will win any award so I'm having a difficult time justifying the price to get in if I bring the car. If I don't bring it I can get in for half price with all the others that make no commitment to the show. Is there something I'm missing here? Bob I'll be honest I don't really see the benefit of getting more and more people who aren't involved in the hobby. BTW I have been a member of FCA since the early 80's even though I have only had a car since the mid 2000's. I think the shows would be better with less people. Maybe that's a bad attitude but it is the way I feel.
Bob- Perhaps a suggestion should be made for a Ferrari Corral section for people that plan to bring their car but not enter it? Was the above quite written by the event organizer? Being involved with the hobby for all my life part of the enjoyment of it is sharing your vehicles with others. The above quote is something I would love to forget I ever read. Offering this event at a PUBLIC museum where someone can pay $12 to see rare cars there is going to ALOT of people in attendance and odds are they aren't "involved" in the hobby. If the event organizer is looking for less people I think they are in for a surprise on the 17th.
Bob, Showing cars at these shows requires resources devoted to judges, awards, logistics, placards, and on and on, which is why those who want to take advantage of the opportunity pay extra... It's like this at every concours I have ever been to. If you don't want your car to be judged or shown just park in the regular lot and pay the regular entry fee.
Excuse me Joe but I hate to disagree. Until a few years ago the Reading Concours was open only to people who had tickets purchased through a member of FCA who got tickets for them. About 5 years ago or so it changed to a show where you could pay at the door. I think if you try you will remember the conversations we used to have on this forum about that very subject. And if anyone wants to believe that this hobby has not changed they have their eyes closed. Funny how everyone raves about Radnor and they charge everyone the same price to get in. I really believe I have been unfairly maligned here and wonder why the opinions I state here I have heard from many but I suddenly feel so alone in my statements. It's sad that I pay for a FCA membership but when I want to have less of a crowd that does not pay the membership and have to pay twice the fee to come and "share" my car with others at a club event I am chastised. Oh well. Obviously a variety of opinions are not respected.
Bob, I honestly don't know to what conversation you are referring, but I can't recall a concours I have been to, ever, where there wasn't some sort of premium to have your car judged. Maybe I am misunderstanding your post? Personally, I see no problem with allowing FCA members to display their cars at no extra charge, but having them judged is another issue. FWIW, The show was always limited to FCA members, as far as I recall, but it was only loosely enforced.
I can understand the frustration, but I can see it from the other side too. Reading was the first Ferrari show I ever went to. This was back in 2001 or so. I didn't realize it was a private show. I just saw the notice in Forza magazine and showed up. No one chased me away and I don't recall if I paid or not. In any case, I was certainly not part of the hobby then, but I am now, and attending that first show played a big role in that. I suppose there needs to be a balance. I too enjoy events that are less crowded and more intimate, but at the same time young people need to be exposed to the hobby since they are its future. If not for them all of these great cars will just end up being part of someone's portfolio, and not enjoyed and experienced the way they were ment to be.
