IMHO:

1) Lotus Esprit S1
2) Ferrari 308 GTB
3) Maserati Merak
4) Ferrari 365BB
5) tough call . . . I'll tentatively say Lamborghini Miura . . . or maybe Islero . . or maybe Maserati Ghibli . . . . or 246 Dino . . . it's too difficult to pick just one more!

 

Haven't come up with the other 4 but the 63-67 Sting Ray has to be on the list.

It was a very large departure on the language of design for its time.

Not too long ago, the E-Type Jaguar OTS was given that title. MOMA (Museum of Modern Art - NYC) even purchased one for its permanent collection. 2 other cars in their collection are a 1990 Ferrari F1 641/2 and a 1946 Cisitalia 202 GT.

I guess I'd qualify this by saying 'modern sports cars'. I'm not any kind of authority on pre-1950 cars of any sort.
