Has to be considered a street legal sports car. Performance doesn't matter. Race History doesnt matter. Just pure Beauty. Mine: Ferrari 308GTS (euro) Love the GTO & Dino 246, but think the lines are better on the 308. Mercedes 300 Gullwing Ferrari 250GT SWB Jaguar XK140 Aston Martin DB4 Notice No Lambo's. Honorable mentions were 57-60 Corvette, Maserati Zagto, Shelby Cobras.
IMHO: 1) Lotus Esprit S1 2) Ferrari 308 GTB 3) Maserati Merak 4) Ferrari 365BB 5) tough call . . . I'll tentatively say Lamborghini Miura . . . or maybe Islero . . or maybe Maserati Ghibli . . . . or 246 Dino . . . it's too difficult to pick just one more!
Haven't come up with the other 4 but the 63-67 Sting Ray has to be on the list. It was a very large departure on the language of design for its time. Jeff
hard not to include the Miura.... 246 Dino 250 LWB California Spyder 289 Shelby Cobra 365 Daytona Spyder 308, BB, 63-67 Vette as runner ups in that order.
In no particular order: Ferrari 308 Lamborghini Muira Maserati Ghibli Dino 246 Lotus Europa TC Honerable Mentions: Triumph Spitfire, Ferrari 599, 1964 Corvette Ken
I'll say (in no order) Ferrari Testarossa (pontoon fender) Jaguar XKE Alfa Giuletta spider (1957) Ferrari 250 GTO Shelby Cobra
In no particular order: 308 GTB/S F40 Lambo Countach Shelby AC Cobra Shelby Mustangs '67-'68 Lotus Esprit Plymouth Superbird/Charger Daytona Corvette '63 Split-Window Probably missing a few ..... and "Yes," I want them all!!!
Not too long ago, the E-Type Jaguar OTS was given that title. MOMA (Museum of Modern Art - NYC) even purchased one for its permanent collection. 2 other cars in their collection are a 1990 Ferrari F1 641/2 and a 1946 Cisitalia 202 GT. My list is: E-type Jaguar Coupe 250 GTO C-type Jaguar 288 GTO Daytona Coupe
Daytona Spyder Cal Spyder SWB Porsche Speedster (356A version) 328 GTS/Euro 308 GTS (F40 and 288 GTO are higher up the food chain, but not as pretty) Jag XK-SS Honorable mentions to Maserati Ghibli; Daytona coupe; Porsche 911 pre-74 coupe; Jag E-Type Series 1 DHC; Dino 246 GTS I guess I'd qualify this by saying 'modern sports cars'. I'm not any kind of authority on pre-1950 cars of any sort.
I voted quickly without looking at previous posts, there are a number of common favorites for sure. Andy
While the sports car car restriction lets out favorites such as the Bently Continental R, Sports cars might include: Talbot Lago Teardrop Bugatti type 55 Ferrari 250 Berlinetta Lusso Jaguar XK-SS Alfa Romeo Type 33 Stradale
To pick 5 cars as all-time best designs I think is impossible and change for me probably on a daily basis. I think a list 100 would be fair. Austin Healey 100-4M Porsche 356 Coupe Jaguar XK 140 Ferrari 250 GT SWB Ferrari F40 Austin Martin DB4
That's an interesting choice. I like the 356A coupes, but not enough to put it on a Top 5 list. You like it more than the Speedster?
1. 275GTB/4 2. Daytona 3. Lamborghini Muira 4. 246GT/S 5. 328GTB/GTS Runner ups 1973 Carrera RS Aston Martin DB5 512BB Lotus Esprit S1 Maserati Bora 300SL Gullwing 930 Turbo 993 CS4 E-Type Jag
Hard. Porsche 550 Spyder (later body) Lamborghini Miura Maserati A6GCS coupe Ferrari 250 LM Stradale (see in Vintage section. There is only one) Ferrari 330 P3 coupe Honorable Mentions: Porsche 356 Carrera Speedster Ferrari SWB California Spyder D type Jag Austin Healy 100M Bugatti type 35 73 Porsche Carrera RS
