Such a genuine guy!!! I like it and hope he stays that way. Ever wanted to get to know your favourite Formula One driver a little better? Ever wanted a glimpse inside their lives outside the cockpit and see what really makes them tick - away from the race track? Now you can with the help of our new series, The Secret Life. First up is Red Bulls Sebastian Vettel, who admits to being a far from model pupil at school, to having a loathing of squeaky shoes, and to sporting a distinctly gothic hair style in his youth Q: Are you the kind of guy to have a Plan-B? Sebastian Vettel: No, not at all. Q: What is your favourite high? SV: Red Bull. What else? Q: Who is your dream date? SV: My girlfriend. Q: Which film makes you cry? SV: La Vita e Bella (Life is Beautiful). If you know the film you understand. Q: What are you afraid of? SV: Mice! I dont like them. Dont ask me why. Q: What was the last book you read? SV: I cant remember. I dont really read books. I like movies more. Q: What was your biggest (non-Formula One) speeding fine? SV: It was in Switzerland, and was something around 250 Swiss Francs. I guess it was 21 km/h over the speed limit. Thats a lot in Switzerland as you dont have much margin there. Q: Name five things that you hate? SV: Squeaky shoes, traffic jams, rotten food, smoking areas at airports and you know those clubs where the air is so full of smoke that you could cut it with a knife, and having to wake up super early. Q: Have you ever dyed your hair? SV: Yes, I have done it already. It was when I was younger, around 14 years-old. I went to a drugstore, bought a do it yourself hair colour in black, went home and did it. It was an experiment, and oh boy, it didnt look too good! Q: What was the first CD you bought? SV: I remember it very well. It was Informer by Reggae artist Snow. I must still have it somewhere. Q: Do you have any tattoos or piercings? SV: Not that I know of! Q: What did teachers say about you in your school report? SV: Probably that I wasnt behaving, fussing all the time, and stirring things up. It would be in that range I assume. Q: Who were your childhood heroes? SV: The three Michaels - Michael Schumacher, Michael Jordan and Michael Jackson. I wanted to become Michael Jackson when I was young. It was painful to realise that I didnt have the voice Q: Do you have any guilty pleasures? SV: Not really. I like deserts but I dont have any problems with that. Q: Do you collect anything? SV: No, not really. Q: What would you die for? SV: Homemade food. My mums kitchen. Q: What was your worst buy? SV: It was in grammar school and I was in love with a girl. There were these chewing gum vending machines from which you could buy all sorts of stuff. I wanted a ring and wasted money on five chewing gums to finally get it out, but I never found the right moment to use it. It was a real waste of my pocket money. Q: How do you take your coffee? SV: I dont drink coffee. I think am too young to understand coffee. I mainly drink water. Q: What is your ideal non-race Sunday morning? SV: To sleep in, have a big breakfast, and hopefully if it is a sunny day, do some sport in the outside air. Badminton or whatever. Mostly to be relaxed. Q: What was your first car? SV: It was a moped. A Kreidler Flory that ran at about 25 km/h. Naturally, I didnt tamper with it to make it go faster! We all know that this is not allowed Q: Whats the most embarrassing mistake youve ever made? SV: One day I was hiding in the closet in the classroom and the teacher found out after half an hour - I had to come out and looked like an idiot. Q: What is the best thing that you can cook? SV: Pasta and tomato sauce. Q: When was the last time you were really furious? SV: In winter testing but I cannot tell you why. And on a lesser scale, I lost against my trainer in badminton last week. It was very close: he won 16:14. That rankled.
The interview was on F1.com also, no? I agree with you, I hope Vettel stays the same genuine guy he has been.
I'm not sure Kimi would make a good #2 to Vettel... plus, I think his rep has taken enough of a beating by getting his ass whupped by Massa... having Vettel own him will not do him any favors. Will make Vettel look good though!
Depends what frame of mind he is in. If Kimi says he wants to come back then why wouldn't he be motivated to? Otherwise he just would come back and either carry on with the WRC or if thats not going well which so far it isn't then just retire completely and sit on a beach with his gorgeous wife.
I read a book called 'Who Do You Think You Are... Michael Schumacher?' last year that was written in 2004. The author travels the world speaking to many people involved in motor sport. In Kerpen at Schumacher's kart track he speaks to the guy who first spotted Michael's talent. This guy has worked with hundreds of kart racers over the years. When asked if any compare to Michael he replies that none had except a kid called Vettel! Here's the book for those interested. It's a good, funny read: http://www.amazon.com/Who-You-Think-Michael-Schumacher/dp/009190160X
Kimi also said he was motivated to keep winning at Ferrari. Words don't go far when actions fail to back them up. Kimi could sit on a beach but I am not sure that's what he wants to do either... he could do that now. He clearly still wants to race, but he's sucking more in WRC than he sucked the last couple of years in F1. The too-cool attitude only works when you're winning. The visual of Kimi having a drink on a yacht when the F1 race was still going on in Monaco now only makes him look like a fool. And while we all know the 2010 Ferrari is a whole new car, the fact remains in peoples mind that Kimi was there and couldn't do anything with the car, despite Massa almost winning WDC with it... and as soon as they fire Kimi and hire Alonso, they're on top again. Would Kimi be winning with the Ferrari this year? Maybe... but it was a grave mistake that he doesn't have the chance to. Now Alonso looks like the hero, and Kimi, the zero.
Yeah, who knows maybe his experience this year in the WRC will make him want to go back to F1 if it doesn't get any better, at the moment he has lots of doubts about where F1 is going in terms of the rules and that the WRC is a more grounded sport than F1 and I would agree with him. I think with the Ferrari 2010 car being probably the fastest car, although maybe not the most reliable after the overheating issues. I do think that if Ferrari had kept Kimi for the end of his contract he could have at least been contending for the title. Remember this is a guy who when Massa was out kinda grew up and he obviously felt he had to deliver because effectively he would be the number 1 guy. Also Kimi has said that he really liked Vettel because of his down-to-earthness and I'm sure he said he still talks to him for time to time, so therefore why wouldn't they work well together?
When did he do this then during his Ferrari years? And I shall ignore the rest of your biased post, can't bothered to reply to that. +1 He's good friends with Vettel.
Here you go - Although I'm not sure if he was with Ferrari or McLaren at the time: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-VW2oAkjcJ4
Mclaren. Video was already online before he was with Ferrari . Much better than all the robot F1 drivers we have now anyways!
