The real fake and maybe a replica of the replica?? :D

In some pics it carry side mirrors and front badge. In others it got none of that.
Also the headlights look tortured in the pics of the one without mirrors and badge.

    Fishy :-o

Was the one in the TV show real? If so was it modified? Many of the Aston Vanquish's used in Die Another Day had Ford engines for use in stunts, etc

One can only guess what they're asking for that beater.

Unless you're Don Johnson or a drop-dead lookalike, the illusion (IMHO) is worthless.

The Daytona was never a real Ferrari. A vette conversion from the start.
Ferrari gave a real Testarossa, however, when his Daytona met an untimely end thanks to a stinger missile. Rumor had it Ferrari didnt like all the press the F-kit-car was getting. Of course, a (rather ugly) stunt TR was built for chase scenes and such... it had these really awful shiny chrome rims. You can see them clearly when you know when to look...
The TR was originally black. It first made its appearance as one of the bad guy's car (Sean Carroon played by a younger Liam Neeson)
The car was repainted white. Reason given was to get the car to photograph better at night. (Personally, the black car reflecting all the neon and lights of Miami at night was alot more dramatic...)

"official" Miami Vice Daytonas and TRs have been popping up every now and then ever since the show ended... this one seems to have all its proper IDs in order. But how much of that can be faked or verified, who knows...

nothing on Ebay is misrepresented, right? :)

if you watch some the episodes and notice the interior. the "daytona" used in the episodes still has the corvette interior. i noticed the one one e-bay has the daytona dash (replicated). i read somewhere that their were only 2 of these cars bought at an auction for the show.

Yes, I agree with you here. Also I thought one of (people say they had more) cars had a Gail Banks turbo set-up on the car, not this crap TPI engine??

The L98 engine in the Ebay photo was initially produced for model year 85 Corvette. It could not have been used for the initial production season of Miami Vice (1984.)

Nice try. (Or the engine has been since upgraded.)

An engine upgrade would bring forth a new dimension to an age old ferrarichat question....

How much of a replicar needs to be original for it to be considered an original replicar?

    ;)

Hello All, One of your members was nice enough to email me the link. I am the gentleman with the Miami Vice Daytona on a Corvette Chassis. I have read a lot of opinions and thoughts both ways on this car. I thought I would help clarify a few things. First off, Miami Vice used Daytona kits not real ones (other then there first pilot episode) Secondly, this car went through a transformation by Roberts (the gentleman that built the TR stunt car that was a kit, which was basically a Pantera) He wanted the Daytona to look more Ferrari so he changed a few things. Lastly, the car sat outside for seven years deteriorating to its sad condition. The car is being offered on ebay although, if it doesnt sell I will be restoring it to its original luster. Oh yeah, as far as the motor this car originally had the Banks twin turbo that was pulled for filming (more reliable crate 350) which blew up after the filming of Speed Zone (watch all the smoke in the film) This current motor was put in by the last owner in 1993. Lastly, I have collected numerous amounts of documentation to varify this car and its story. I hope to have clarified some things and also shed some new light on the topic. Thank You

    Thanks for chiming in.

This car looks like it will be a serious project for someone. I mean it's not as if the car is documented as well as a production car.

I'd like to see it in a museum one day.

Thanks for posting, if I knew it had definite 100% provenance I would love that car, just like many on here programmes like Miami Vice & Magnum influenced us as kids into the Ferrari world, you haven't got magnums car hidden away as well have you :)

one thing I don't like about "restoring" a car is that it is all new parts. If you recover the seats, dash and paint the car then redo the engine, tires etc it isn't anything original from it's heyday other than the shell where the famous guys sat. Nobody famous ever touched anything currently in the car.

It is sad to see the car in the condition it is in, but I like to be able to look at that rotted out seat and say THAT is where Crockett and Tubbs sat rather than "here is a recovered seat that is identical to the one they sat in"

Are the camera mounts the reason for the outer headlights (although I don't know how the mounts would affect them) and front fenders being bent? Or is that just because it is in poor condition?
