Happy New Year, Sir. Irresistable Force Meets Immovable Object. Question 1: How is the irresistable object (P4) coming along? Question 2: 0846 or 0848?
Actually the damage occured when Amon got a flat and tried to change it. The head of the trusty Ferrari KO hammer flew off and he was unable to change the tire. He tried to drive back to the pits and the mag wheel caught on fire. Many thought 0846 (my car) was completely destroyed at that time. They are wrong. 0846 will soon be coming home. Best to you and yours! James
The entire story of this car is quite long. If you search the old forum you'll find some of it. When I'm finished restoring it I'm sure it will be published. As Bob said: "The wheel's still in spin..."
Napolis, Will you have Forza or any other Ferrari magazine doing a complete story on the car, from then to now, including details on your complete restoration?
Adesalos Yes. There will be an article on my car in a major car mag. Eric My chassis shows evidence of repair that matches the damage in that photo (to the right rear) as well as repair to the right front front, damage caused by Vacceralla's Targo Floria crash in 0846. To me those repairs are key. They were made in the late 60's. If my chassis were "new" it means someone damaged it and repaired it to mimic those crashes. That is something I don't believed happened. The water tube welds and the welds that were done in the rear to change my chassis from a P3 to a P4 by different people at a later date fits with 0846 originally being a P3 and being converted to a P4 by Ferrari. Why would someone have faked this? At that time these cars weren't worth enough to go to all this trouble. Also why would Massini have writen Mark that he saw 0846 owned by Piper in the early 70?
I was told that the chassis of 0846 was used for the Pinin Farina P5 prototype. Are you using the original body or parts of the body of 0846? Which engine is/will be fitted in your 0846?
If you search the old forum you'll find discussion, photos, and dimensions that disprove the myth that the remains of 0846 were used to build P5. In addition you'll find pics of my engine and gear box along with serial #'s. Both of these are quite original and correct.
Hey, Mr. G., do you ever have a chance to do any of this stuff yourself...? i remember you posted pictures of some guys banging out the body panels... Do you ever have the opportunity to do any of this, first-hand...?
Do you know how long the restoration will take? The body looks already very nice. Is the mechanical part of the car already restored? And when it's finished, are you going to participate in races with that 0846. Or will you only use the car for display? It would be nice if I see you participating here at the european SHC. Together with his little brother, the 330 P3 - 0844.
