While the Stroll thread has been a popular sandbox for his bashing I thought I would create a playpen for Latifi. Let's see his father is wealthier than Stroll, and he has had a much longer and less-successful progression to F1. In addition he came to Williams with a bag full of cash and even has an ownership interest in McLaren. If lack of talent and money are seen as sins then this guy has got Stroll beat. Have at it. BTW I was far to un-creative today to come up with a clever title for this thread.
Okay, fair enough. I'm game. Too soon to tell znd too hard to read plus he's a rookie and driving a Wiiliams. So with that being said, Russell will be the only gauge against Latifi during his first year. Good title for the thread btw.
My take on this is that without Stroll and Latifi's interest in F1, we could have had 2 teams going out of business. So I am comfortable with their sons being on the grid, as rich amateurs. In fact, I quite like it. People shouldn't laugh: more teams may have to look for pay-drivers soon.
I'm going to go waaaayyyy out on a limb and say Latifi will do better when his father buys him his own team. Williams can't get out of their own way even with a quality guy like George Russell behind the wheel. Prove me wrong . . .
No sympathy for this guy. For every Lafiti & stroll, there is a talented driver who will never make it to F1.
They could just have sponsored those teams, it would be better for everybody. Better for the teams because they could race with 2 proper drivers. Better for the millionaires, because they'd get more return from their investment. And probably the most important, better for their sons, because they'd know that whatever thet'd get with a LMP2 or a GT would be deserved. But as the song said, it's evolution, baby.
They see it differently. A sponsor can influence a team, but he doesn't control its assets. Also the dividend at the end of the year will go to the team, not to the sponsor. After Benetton, Mateschitz understood that: after sponsoring several teams, he bought his own, in fact he bought 2! Lawrence Stroll must think the same. I have no idea if Latifi Sr will follow that path.
They didn´t become millionaires putting their sons in a job they´re not qualified for. That´s all I have to say.
I'm more excited to see GR racing.he kept the car on track today which lot everyone did. To his credit he is slower but he did keep in touch with the back of the pack.
No fan of his. Downright average in F2, especially for how long he competed, he should've dominated F2 at some point. But given the same opportunity? Rich dad, willing to buy me into an F1 team? I really doubt I would say no. That said, LMP1-2, GTE is where these guys truly belong. Buy into the F1 Clienti program with a V10 Ferrari F1 car to get the F1 thrills.
Coming from poverty myself, but I don't have any issues with folks being born on third base. But as @tifosi12 said, if Vettel beat you, you have a long way to go.
It’s fun and all with Vettel now but don’t think there’s anybody in the world who hasn’t been beaten by him multiple times and he does not come from a rich family either
Well to be honest I know nothing about this guy. Daddies have always bought their kids into racing seats; but the difference for me will be...will he act as a team player and a gentleman? Unlike that brat Stroll who just threw Williams under the bus every opportunity he got instead of getting stuck in and trying to Support the team. Good driver or not; you act like a brat you can take a flying f*** in my book. Time will tell.
Us Canadian zillionaires are always up against the wall when it comes to friends or families who decide they have someone who is born to be the next WDC. Sometimes you just have to put your foot down (no pun intended) and limit it to immediate family only. So consider it an early inheritance then, kind of like a reverse mortgage except well, the terms are better. These kids wanna race instead of being rap or movie stars and you wonder why we don’t mind ponying up a few bricks? Plus you know how it is if you don’t exercise those yachts now and then. Oh yeah, sorry, you wouldn’t....
I think that's the biggest reason why Stroll is disliked. People always say he is hated for having been born into a rich family (which I always thought was odd, given that a) most racing drivers come from at least some money, B) this is Ferrarichat...where many many people have multiple Ferrari's and other sports/supercars...and there's some truly rich people here and C) given this is Ferrarichat, and Papa Stroll having an enormous Ferrari collection). Look at another driver in similar circumstances: Lando Norris. Almost universally loved. Dad is worth some 250 million, so not exactly poor. Anyone moan about him being a paydriver?
