Even though we're getting out of a global pandemic and likely getting into a global recession, the Ferrari market seems to be reacting quite strong and so I wonder, could it be the right moment to buy a special model?

I think that a Ferrari must be bought first for pleasure but let's face it, we all look also at the investment side. Been reflecting since a while about that and I cannot stop to think about considering the purchase of a 550 Barchetta or a 16M in the near future.

Right now it seems very hard to buy a limited edition Ferrari for a fair price (especially the recent ones) and so the circle narrows to these two models I find rather interesting:

550 Barchetta: just 448 units, open top V12 combined with the desirable 6-speed manual transmission (one of the last Ferraris with this combination) - here in Europe they're still around 300/350k €

16M - just 499 units, made to celebrate the 16th F1 Constructors title of Scuderia Ferrari (maybe the last ever if they keep Binotto) and possibly it's one of the most thrilling V8 Ferraris of the modern era - here in Europe they're still around 300/350k and there's a very big gap of about 350/400k if compared to its successor, the 458 Speciale Aperta

As the title says, how do you see the value for these cars in the future? I know it sounds bizarre think of a 550 or a Scud sold for a 7 digit figure but you never know the market (well, mass electrification and new boring cars are a warning bell to me), even the 599 GTO was worth it about 350k€ back in the days and now just look at the current prices.

The 16M is the most undervalued Ferrari today. They will only rise if one is bid at auction for a big number. But there's a small chance of that happening. Collectors typically only bid up cars that are pristine with very low miles. Those sales tend to cause a "rising tide lifts all boats" effect on less pristine examples. But it's rare to find a super low mile 16M because people love to drive them. The four 16Ms for sale today in the US have average miles around 6000 and none under 5000. The cars on Autoscout in Europe have average KMs greater than 28K and none under 9K.

Except for a brief spell during the early days of COVID (when everything was down), F12 TDFs have effectively been million dollar (plus) cars, so that's not really a market-moving result.

The 550 Barchetta at current values is perhaps the best value in the entire car market, for all of the reasons OP mentioned.

no one likes the 16m or scud in europe for some reason, it's completely retarded and makes no sense

I don't believe it'll go up in value either, the market doesn't like them

there are other cars which I feel will always be undervalued too - 670sv for ex

Weird thing is that here in Europe the market is pumping the 430 Scuderia, I don't get the point to pay 200/250k for a 430 Scud when for an extra 100k you can get the 16M which is roughly 4/5 times rarer.

SVs seem already quite expensive and looking at the Murcie market in general, I feel like sellers are pumping it too much - just an example, a dealership I know bought last year a 6-speed Murcielago with about 8000km. They priced it 300k €, car is still unsold and now they raised the price to 400k.. ridiculous!

Honestly I'm very tempted about the 550 Barchetta, maybe I should start to look around

here it's £170k for a 430 scud which imo is underpriced

and around £400k for a murci sv, which considering there is only 180 or so of them is also very underpriced, but the market doesn't care about that - aventador sv's go for strong money despite there being loads of them

Wouldn't you think a Daytona, 330GTC or Dino would hit a million before any of the newer models that are currently under a million?

I'd say of the two the 16M has the best chance, lots of performance upgrades over the base 430 and has a real functioning top.

  10. I think the only car worth investing in today with the hopes of it seeing the 1M is the Speciale.

    Speciale Aperta even better.

    But the Coupe will suffice.

With 3000 speciale made, hard to imagine it will hit 1 million. Only f car with comparable production that I can think of is Dino, and that’s not even 1 mil

I guess with inflation, in a few decades the speciale will be 1 mil…
